Quite as expected, from the bunched releases of this week, it was Vikram Bhatt's Aftab-Tia starrer, 1920 - EVIL RETURNS, which dominated the proceedings, more so at the massy centers with collections in the range of 50-70 percent. Not that the multiplexes were a washout but were lower at 30-40 percent on an average. The important thing is that the film is providing the thrills and chills to the target audience (if not the critics) and so, given the low involved costs, the film is sure to be a plus fare for all concerned.

The other major release of the week, Anurag Kashyap's LUV SHUV TEY CHICKEN KHURANA, is getting encouraging reviews but somehow the audience has not taken a liking to the film. The two bright spots are Punjab and Delhi City, but beyond that the film has below par collections. However, the weekend can still see the film making a turnaround, just like Anurag's GANGS OF WASSEYPUR.

The best performance though came from the latest James Bond starrer, SKYFALL (which released on Thursday), but outside of South, the opening was not all that great.

Meanwhile all the major releases of last week, Prakash Jha's CHAKRAVYUH, the Emraan, Sagarika and Neha starrer RUSH and Vashu Bhagnani's AJAB GAZABB LOVE, have failed at the ticket window. Just for the records the best collections came from CHAKRAVYUH (which released on Wednesday), which netted around 15 crore.

The week was once again dominated by Karan Johar's STUDENT OF THE YEAR and the film has so far netted 59-60 crore (to be validated) in two weeks from India, and is now a semi-hit, taking into account the overseas and non-theatrical rights.
