2.0 : Can Akshay Kumar do what Amitabh Bachchan has done in Rajinikanth starrers?!!

Finally, the teaser of India’s most anticipated science fiction 2.0 was released yesterday. The teaser of India’s biggest movie (estimated budget of Rs 543 crore) starring Rajinikanth, Akshay Kumar and Amy Jackson with a production time of three years and a team of over 3,000 technicians worldwide, director Shankar’s 2.0 the sequel to his mega science fiction ENTHIRAN (2010, ROBOT in Hindi) has reportedly clocked around 32 10 million views till now including all the versions (Telugu, Tamil and Hindi combined) in around five hours.

The teaser shows the superstar Rajinikanth back in his awesome avatar as Chitti the Robot and it’s mind-blowing to the hilt making his fans go crazily berserk.

But, honestly we would have loved to see some more of Akshay Kumar – the villain of 2.0 which has made this movie much bigger then it seems. His avatar as the alien who can kinetically control metal, specifically mobile phones, and mould them into any shape is something to look out for.

However in the trailer, though the presence of Akshay Kumar’s character ‘The Crow’ is felt almost throughout, we see only a blink of Akshay Kumar twice, rest all is our dear Thalaivar. Certainly its impossible to overpower Rajinikanth in his own film, only the icon for the icons Amitabh Bachcan can do that.

But now there is a twist, since the announcement of the shoot of 2.0 in the mid of December 2015, the world of Akshay Kumar and his fans has changed considerably. The new poster boy of patriotisms on screen has delivered 8 hits in a row starting with AIRLIFT in 2016, followed by HOUSEFULL 3 then RUSTOM, JOLLY LLB 2, NAAM SHABANA, TOILET: A LOVE STORY, PAD MAN and the last GOLD.

Rajinikanth has not that rosy picture at the box office to show in comparison, his last two releases KAALA and KABALI had underperformed at least in the Hindi belt.

This may sound over dramatic and weird to may but interestingly the scenario is something similar when Rajinikanth made his Bollywood debut with ANDHA KANOON in 1983. The T. Rama Rao directed reboot of Tamil hit SATTAM ORU IRUTTARAI (1981) had Mr. Bachchan playing a ‘special’ cameo.  Amitabh Bachchan was at his peak at that time like Akshay Kumar who is enjoying his best phase. Ask anyone in this part of the world especially, the word ANDHA KANOON flashes the image of Amitabh Bachchan in that iconic courtroom scene. The movie starred Rajinikanth as lead, but the presence of Amitabh Bachchan overpowered Rajinikanth. Rajinikanth has high regards for Mr. Bachchan and the star of the millennium is Thalaivar’s friend, philosopher and guide. Two years later in Prayag Raaj directed GERAFTAAR, the presence of Amitabh Bachchan in what it was credited as a ‘very special appearance’ dwarfed the existence of both Rajinikanth and Kamal Hassan.

Interestingly, now the importance of the villain – The Crow in Shankar’s sequel to ENTHIRAN (ROBOT in Hindi) has turned extremely important. Akshay Kumar is undeniably an unstoppable force today and we are sure that the makers of 2.0 are aware of this fact. There are chances that The Crow might make it really tough for Chtti. The million dollar question is, will be that strong enough to please Akshay’s kingdom and what if it overpowers Rajinikanth the way Amitabh Bachchan did when he appeared in Rajinikanth starrers?!.

Only time will tell, but remember MUJHSE SHAADI KAROGI in 2004, when our dear Khiladi Kumar – Akshay Kumar made Salman Khan a bigger star than him at that time, pay for his every move and stealed the show at ease.
