The Diwali week has thrown up an impressive haul for the Hindi film industry, as the two awaited releases, producer-director-actor Ajay Devgn’s SHIVAAY and the Karan Johar’s Aishwarya, Ranbir and Anushka starrer AE DIL HAI MUSHKIL, managed 145 crore between them.AE DIL HAI MUSHKIL AND SHIVAAY
Coming to the number crunching, the first release, Ajay’s SHIVAAY, the film managed a decent 26 crore weekend and then saw two bumper days, aided by Govardhan Puja and Bhaiya Dooj holidays. Post that the film saw a noticeable depreciation in collections as the working days set in. To cut a long story short, SHIVAAY ended the first week netting a creditable 64-65 crore . SHIVAAY though has been rejected in the overseas.
Given the 105 crore raw budget, the movie has to show strong legs in the coming weeks to be considered a success.
The second Diwali release, Karan Johar’s AE DIL HAI MUSHKIL, managed a good 36 crore opening weekend and an expected jump during the two above mentioned holidays and maintained well during the two remaining working days of the week. To sum up, AE DIL HAI MUSHKIL ended the first week netting a good 79-80 crore from India. ADHM is a big overseas hit grossing $8.20m during the opening week.
Given the 92 crore all-inclusive price (70 percent already recovered prior to release), AE DIL HAI MUSHKIL is all set to be hit, if not super hit.
