Aamir Khan: I wanted to play Ranbir Kapoor’s role in SANJU

Aamir Khan has completed 30 years in Bollywood and he is still loved and appreciated for the body of work he has done so far. How can one easily forget QAYAMAT SE QAYAMAT TAK his first film and now he has done so many films which have touched chords of Indian audiences as well as loved over seas.
Well most importantly his last film DANGAL was something wherein Aamir trained a lot hard and still managed to portray diverse roles.
And now he is busy with THUGS OF HINDOSTAN he squeezed some time off and interacted with media as he spoke in detail about his journey in celluloid and more.
Well there were reports that that the biopic on Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt's life SANJU which is currently essayed by Ranbir Kapoor, Aamir Khan was offered to play the role of Dutt's father Sunil Dutt in the movie. However, it turns out that Aamir has passed the offer. Reportedly, Aamir had liked Sunil Dutt's character sketch in the film and had shown interest in playing the role, but changed his mind later.
At the media interaction when quizzed Aamir about the same he said, yes I was offered the role but I am so deeply in love with the role of Sanjay Dutt and I am truly amazed by his life. I want to play his role which is already being essayed by Ranbir Kapoor. I am not convinced in playing something else, I have a huge respect for Dutt sahab but I turned down as I wanted to be play Sanjay Dutt. So it would be unfair for me as an actor to do a role which I am not convinced and had I taken up it would like, ‘I wish I had done the role on the sets’. None the less Ranbir Kapoor is a fabulous and a very hard working actor.”
Aamir went on a nostalgic trail while speaking about Dutt saheb he said, Dutt saheb would write telegram for me. The one line or one word telegram saying congratulations! Or well done! I would also want to share an incident during the 1993 riots we actors decided to go on strike and decided to stop the riots by pleading to the CM for which we sat near the Mahatma Gandhi statue near mantralaya five of us sat there entire night including Dutt saheb, Yash Chopra, Johnny Walker and one producer, I must tell you that night was simply a night of stories which I still reminisce.”
