The university town of Aligarh has the distinction of providing some big names to the industry, mainly by way of poets and writers. Shakeel Badayuni, Janesar and Javed Akhtar, Asrar Ul Haq (Majaz), Ravindra Jain and Shahryar to name a few.

Apart from that Naseeruddin Shah (actor) and Anubhav Sinha (filmmaker), Faraz Haider (director) and late Ajay Jhingran (music director) are some of the other contributions. In fact not many will know that Nawazuddin Siddiqui too tried to get admitted to the Aligarh Muslim University, but could not get through!

In 2012 Aligarh lost Shahryar (GAMAN, UMRAO JAAN, FAASLE etc.) and 2015 saw the demise of Ravindra Jain and just last month Kavi Neeraj too left for his Heavenly abode.

If that was not enough, dialogue, writer and lyricist/poet Jalees Sherwani too passed away earlier this week. Though Jalees sahib is best known for his recent Salman Khan projects (TERE NAAM, GARV, HELLO BROTHER, MUJHSE SHAADI KAROGI, PARTNER, DABANGG, DABANGG 2 and TIGER ZINDA HAI), not many will know that he has been around for quite a while with films like KANWARLAL, PRATIGHAT, HATYARE, MRITYUDATA, AAKROSH, BAAGHI etc.

We offer our condolences to the bereaved family!
