Akshay Kumar, Madhur Bhandarkar and other talk about celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi
Akshay Kumar: It's very auspicious festival & I always say that make it an eco-friendly Ganpati, because the worst sight is after the visarjan (immersing the idol in water). It's something that you don't want to come and see. I stay on the beach side & I always see it. It's very sad when you see Ganpati's hands and legs scattered around. You feel very awkward also. It'd be great if people can use an eco-friendly Ganpati, which absorbs in the water and becomes sand. I know it's a little bit expensive, but in that way you can help save the environment.
Madhur Bhandarkar: I think Ganesh Chaturthi is a great festival. Indians have been celebrating it since so many years. We bring Ganpati at our place and celebrate it with a lot of zeal. We go to Lalbaug Cha Raja and then on 2-3rd day we visit many other pandals. I’ve been a Ganpati bhakt for so many years, so it’s a great feeling. Definitely, it is fun with cousin, kids and everybody else in my family.
Manish Paul: I really believe in Ganpati. I’ve been getting him since 2009. And thankfully, he’s been honouring by coming to my house. Because we aren’t the ones to decide, Ganpati decides it. I usually say I amass my energy for the whole year from him in 2 days (main apne pure saal ki energy unse kheech leta hoon). And again, I’m ready to ask him to fulfill my several wishes like a greedy man.
Anil Mange (HASEE TOH PHASEE actor who was seen in HERO and will be seen as Akshay Kumar’s friend in SINGH IS BLIING): I recently heard that we spend crores on Ganesh festival. Lokmanya Tilak started the festival to unite people, but people distributed the Ganpati within areas and societies. I think people should come up with one Ganpati and instead of spending enormously; they should work towards the betterment of the area and utilize the money to solve the local problems. They could spend the same money in making their area and city more beautiful. During the 8-days festival, people should start thinking if they are wasting crores of money.

Rajshri Deshpande (KICK and TALAASH starlet who will be seen in INDIAN ANGRY GODESSES): God would not like to see that we are polluting the ocean. So, it should be celebrated cleanly and peacefully.
Avani Modi (one of Madhur Bhandarkar’s CALENDAR GIRLS): Hospitality is a very important element in our Indian culture and Hindu religion. We love to do that. And during Ganesh Chaturthi, we get a chance to be the host for our God. And Lord Ganesha has always been portrayed as a lord of prosperity. During this festival it literally feels like Ganesha is coming to our home and staying with us which gives us the feeling of a God being our family.
I still don't understand the reason behind the visarjana. But as said in our Vedas and Puranas, whatever we create goes back to the nature only. So maybe this is the way we bid farewell to our God. But practically after seeing the waste of the nature at the end of the festival, I strongly recommend ecofriendly Ganesha to all. I feel Ganesha would be happier if you feed the poor people of our society rather than making chhappan bhog for him. I also think that dancing on a road side and that too on Bollywood item songs should be removed. It not only creates noise pollution but also harms our religious values.
I am a big follower of Lord Ganesha and big lover of this festival, I wish all my fans a very happy and prosperous Ganesh Chaturthi. Ganpati Bappa Morya!
Glamsham too wishes everyone a happy and delightful Ganesh Chaturthi!
