Akshay Kumar will play Gulshan Kumar - the man who changed the economics of music industry in the biopic MOGUL to be helmed by Subhash Kapoor.

Riding fresh on the success of JOLLY LLB 2, the winning combo of Bollywood current poster boy of patriotism Akshay Kumar and the creator of the money spinning satirical franchise JOLLY LLB will reunite to tell the rags to riches story of the founder of the music label T-series - Gulshan Kumar.

Akshay Kumar has reportedly been quoted saying, 'I had the good fortune of knowing Gulshanji well and had a close association with him right from my first film SAUGANDH. We both shared many things in common and come from a similar background. I am very excited to play him on screen.'

Born as Gulshan Dua in 1951 to a Punjabi family, Gulshan Kumar’s father Chandrabhan was a fruit juice seller in Darya Ganj market in Delhi, things changed when Gulshan’s family acquired a shop selling records and cover versions of top Bollywood singers. Singer Sonu Nigam’s first shot to fame was from here when he sang hit cover versions of the legendary Mohammed Rafi.

Gulshan Kumar introduced his own label of audio cassettes known as 'Super Cassettes Industries,' and brought the revolution by selling audio cassettes at much cheaper rates then other big players like HMV, EMI etc.

Its not known whether the biopic will cover those sensational and controversial parts regarding the death of the music baron or will stick to the rags and riches format. But certainly the story of Gulshan Kumar who founded the empire called T-series which is now a major force not only in music but in production as well (LAL DUPATTA MALMAL KA was their first film production) and the upcoming NAAM SHABANA is their latest release, is a story of how dreams and ambition can be achieved that needs to be told.
