Manoj Bajpayee has time and again been appreciated for his roles, but what’s surprising is that the actor is envious of Rajkummar Rao who tasted success only 4 years back!

Manoj, at ALIGARH trailer launch said, “He (Rajkummar) is somebody I really envy because in the time when the good films are happening, in the time when such great directors like Hansal Mehta are making films, he is just there in the right age. So many actors like me, spent our time waiting at home for that one script to happen and those films used to be very rare.”
However, this isn’t the first time these two actors have worked together. Not many would remember, but there was a movie named CHITTAGONG which starred Manoj Bajpayee, Vega Tamotia, Jaideep Ahlawat, Alexx ONell in lead roles and Rajkummar Rao in a supporting role.
Narrating his first experience with Rajkummar Rao, Manoj Bajpayee said, “I’ve seen him for the first time when I was doing CHITTAGONG somewhere in North Bengal – young boy, full of dreams, full of enthusiasm, desperate to prove himself all the time. But good at heart. Somebody that I related to from the first day. And from that day till now, we’re great friends. I have lot of admiration for this man, not only because he is a good guy but also because there is so much of passion. “Once he’s convinced about something, he just goes ahead and gives everything that he has without thinking what he’s going to get out of it. Somebody who hasn’t thought twice before taking this decision to be part of ALIGARH.”
Along with being envious about Rajkummar Rao, Manoj Bajpayee spoke about why he was upset with Hansal Mehta.
“I like speaking about the captain of the ship (Hansal Mehta). When I had come to Mumbai in 1993 for the first time, I was really scared because I had left theatre for movies. I had a really good friend Ashish Vidyarthi here who has done brilliant work in films. Ashish Vidyarthi worked with Hansal in a daily soap. When I went to ask for work the first time, it was from this man. I was told that directors are very rude and ignore people. But the way this man met me, I’m just grateful from that day till now. Apart from that, he’s become a very close friend of mine, been a part of my ups and downs, misery. But one thing we always made sure was talking to each other on call, in time of crisis or celebrations. I’ll never forgive him for not coming to me directly for this film. He couldn’t think of me being serious and Mukesh Chabbra (the casting director) suggested my name. Somebody who’s so close to me couldn’t think of my name, but I’ve forgiven you for this Hansal. You know why? I’ve seen the film and no matter how many sins you’d have done, I would’ve still forgiven you,” said Manoj.
Directed by Hansal Mehta, ALIGARH is a story which is based on the real life of incident of Dr. Shrinivas Ramchandra Siras which stars Manoj Bajpayee and Rajkummar Rao in lead roles.
