The prominent release of the week, Anushka-Diljit’s PHILLAURI, opened to a decent response of about 20-25 percent. The North, especially East Punjab and Delhi-NCR was much better (35-40 percent). The film saw a small pick up during the latter shows. As per early estimates PHILLAURI has netted nearly 4 crore on the opening day.
Given the the low all inclusive budget (around 20 crore), even a reasonable weekend haul will see the film through.
The other major release, Swara Bhaskar’s ANAARKALI OF AARAH, saw some critical acclaim but could not quite convert it in to box-office returns, though the interiors did see some encouraging response.
Meanwhile, the Varun Dhawan and Aliya Bhatt starrer, BADRINATH KI DULHANIA, continued it’s good run and has netted 101 crore (to be validated) in two weeks from India. The film is a super hit and still has some fire power left.
BADRINATH KI DULHANIA is also on a good overseas run grossing around $5m with $1,750,000 from the US, at the end of the second week.
