As expected, the Arjun-Shraddha starrer, HALF GIRLFRIEND, turned out to be front runner (25-30 percent start), due to patronisation by the youth audience. The first day appears to be in the 10-11 crore range and the film should end up with a healthy weekend total.
The second release, Irrfan Khan’s HINDI MEDIUM started on an ordinary note (10-15 percent), but given the by-and-large good reviews, the film is expected to pick up at good multiplexes over the weekend. As per early estimates, the film has netted around 3 crore, during the opening day.
The third release, JATTU ENGINEER, saw some decent collections in pockets of north by the Saint’s followers, as always.
Meanwhile, both the releases of last week, Ram Gopal Varma’s Amitabh Bachchan starrer SARKAR 3 and Yash Raj Films’ Parineeti-Ayushmaan's MERI PYAARI BINDU, saw pedestrian opening weeks, netting 10 and 9.50 crore (approximately) respectively, and needless to add are box-office failures.
Concluding with the S.S. Rajamouli directed BAAHUBALI 2 : THE CONCLUSION (Hindi), the film continued to mow down the new releases and in the process established the third week record as well, adding another 70 crore, thus netting 458 crore (to be validated), in three weeks from India. BB2 is the biggest ever blockbuster by a huge margin and still counting!
