This week saw multiple releases in the form of DOBAARA, Manisha Koirala’s DEAR MAYA, Konkona Sen Sharma’s A DEATH IN THE GUNJ, MIRROR GAME - AB KHEL SHURU, SWEETIE WEDS NRI and JUNOON-ONCE UPON A TIME IN CALCUTTA and HANUMAN DA’ DAMDAR (animated) etc. along with Priyanka Chopra’s Hollywood venture, BAYWATCH (dubbed). Quite obviously BAYWATCH dominated but the opening was nothing to write home (10-15 percent) about and that should also clear the air about the performance of the Indian ventures.
Comparatively speaking, the front runner from amongst the desi ventures turned out to be DOBAARA with HANUMAN DA’ DAMDAR in hot pursuit, though none of the two or the others are likely to achieve anything significant at the box-office.
Meanwhile, SACHIN : A BILLION DREAMS (docu-feature) saw an inspired innings during the opening week netting around 40 crore (all versions) and is sure to emerge as a profitable venture in the end count.
Checking out the two older releases, while Irrfan Khan’s HINDI MEDIUM has netted 43-44 crore at the end of the second week, Arjun-Shraddha’s HALF GIRLFRIEND managed 55-56 crore at the same junction. Needless to add, taking all factors into account, T-Series’ HINDI MEDIUM is a hit and Balaji Motion Pictures’ HALF GIRLFRIEND, an average.
Concluding with the biggest all time blockbuster, S. S. Rajamouli’s BAAHABALI 2 :THE CONCLUSION (Hindi), the film crossed the 500 crore figure from India and still has some fire power left!
