The coming Friday will witness the release of Alia Bhatt starrer RAAZI along with PVR Films’ Naseeruddin Shah venture HOPE AUR HUM etc. Needless to add that the content driven RAAZI will be the front runner and a possible success, given the good promos and already popular songs. Unfortunately the same cannot be said about the other ventures.
Concluding with the Shoojit Sircar directed Varun Dhawan starrer, OCTOBER, the film managed another decent week collecting 50 lakhs from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unrecieved), 5.55 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 2.25 lakhs from Surat, 2.50 lakhs from Baroda, 15 lakhs from Pune, 1.50 lakhs from Nasik, 2.25 lakhs from Goa, 35 lakhs from Delhi city, 10 lakhs from Noida, 2.75 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 1.50 lakhs from Kanpur, 6.50 lakhs from Lucknow, 1 lakh from Allahabad, 2.15 lakhs from Dehradun, 10 lakhs from Gurgaon, 1.50 lakhs from Faridabad, 2 lakhs from Chandigarh, 1.75 lakhs from Jalandhar, 25 lakhs from Calcutta, 1.75 lakhs from Siliguri, 1.25 lakhs from Patna, 1 lakh from Ranchi, 1.50 lakhs from Bhubaneshwar, 1.50 lakhs from Guwahati, 1.50 lakhs from Nagpur, 1.50 lakhs from Raipur, 3 lakhs from Indore, 1.25 lakhs from Gwalior, 2 lakhs from Bhopal, 3.50 lakhs from Jaipur, 5 lakhs from Hyderabad and 20 lakhs from Bangalore. Adding another 2.75 crore, OCTOBER has netted 41.75 crore in three weeks from India and is a below average fare, after taking into account the 35 crore recovery (already in) from non-theatrical rights and the fair overseas run.
Meanwhile, Hollywood’s biggest hit in India (destined to be!) AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR (all versions) managed a huge opening week, netting nearly 158 crore. The film is holding superbly in the second week as well and is sure to surpass the previous best foreign film, THE JUNGLE BOOK (190 crore), when the second week collections are out and will be Hollywood’s first 200 crore (all versions) venture in India!
The other release of the same week as AVENGERS, Sudhir Mishra’s Richa Chaddha starrer DAAS DEV, barely managed a crore and is a washout.
Last week saw the release of Amitabh-Rishi starrer 102 NOT OUT and Hansal Mehta’s Rajkummar Rao starrer OMERTA, and the two performed as per expectations. While OMERTA could appeal only selectively (may just about manage a 3.50 crore week), 102 NOT OUT went from strength-to-strength netting 17 crore during the opening weekend and is holding exceedingly well on weekdays, and is sure to end up as a success, if not hit! 102 NOT OUT has also impressed in the overseas grossing $1.25m with £62,000 from UK and $485,000 from the US, during the opening weekend (4-6 May).
