Bollywood Box Office Report Of The Week: 15th Mar 2019
The coming Friday will witness bunched releases in the form of Tigmanshu Dhulia’s MILAN TALKIES , the Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra directed MERE PYAARE PRIME MINISTER, Ritesh Batra’s Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer, PHOTOGRAPH and Krishna Abhishek’s SHARMAJI KI LAG GAYI etc. As things stand the front runner is likely to be the Ali Fazal and Shraddha starrer MILAN TALKIES followed by MERE PYAARE PRIME MINISTER and PHOTOGRAPH in that order.
Checking out last major Friday’s release, Red Chillies and Azure Entertainment’s Amitabh-Taapsee starrer, BADLA, while the naysayers who thought that CAPTAIN MARVEL would completely decimate the Red Chillies and Azure Entertainment venture were proved wrong, as the film went from strength-to-strength. Very much as we had predicted, BADLA after lagging CAPTAIN MARVEL by about 7 crore on the first day, caught up with the Hollywood venture on Wednesday. The likely scenario is that at the end of the first week, BADLA is likely to be around the 38 crore mark and CAPTAIN MARVEL at 57 crore. BADLA has also impressed in the overseas (especially US) grossing $1.75m with £80,000 from UK and $600,000 from the US, during the opening weekend (8-10 March).

The other release of the same week as LUKA CHUPPI, Abhishek Chaubey’s SONCHIRIYA barely managed 5.50 crore during the opening week from India . The film has also failed to make a mark in the overseas.

Concluding with Ronnie Screwvala’s Vicky Kaushal starrer URI- THE SURGICAL STRIKE, the film added another 3.50 crore thus netting 242.50 crore in eight weeks from India and is an all time blockbuster. URI-TSS is also an overseas super hit grossing $6.25m with $4.1m from the US.
