Bollywood Box Office Report Of The Week: 17th Apr 2019

This Wednesday (Mahavir Jayanti holiday) witnesses the release of Karan Johar and Sajid Nadiadwala’s  much anticipated multi-starrer KALANK , featuring Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri, Sonakhshi, Alia, Varun Dhawan and Aditya Roy. The film is all set for a good to bumper start.

Last week’s bunched releases, Vivek Agnihotri’s THE TASHKENT FILES, Rakesh Ranjan’s mystery thriller PAHARGANJ, Saurabh Shukla and Nandita Das’s ALBERT PINTO KO GUSSA KYON AATA HAI, Sanjay Mishra’s GUN PE DONE and Raghubir Yadav’s BLACKBOARD V/S WHITEBOARD, failed to appeal to the audience. The best of the lot turned out to be THE TASHKENT FILES due to some  critical acclaim but it could only manage around 2.30 crore during the opening weekend. Having said that, THE TASHKENT FILES has seen a trend of increasing collections which augurs well for the film.

The film also disappointed in the overseas grossing  £35,000 from UK and $140,000 from the US 

Coming to Chuck Russel’s, Vidyut Jammawal’s  JUNGLEE,  the film  crashed badly in its second week adding 3 crore and has thus 24 netted in two weeks from India and is a failure.

Adding another 11 crore during its third week , KESARI  has netted 146.50 crore in three weeks from India and is a hit. KESARI is decent in the overseas (good in US) grossing over $4m with  £350,000 from UK and $1,900,000 from the US till the fourth weekend (12-14 April).

Concluding with  Red Chillies and Azure Entertainment’s Amitabh-Taapsee starrer, BADLA, the film added another 2.50 crore  during its fifth week thus netting 87.50 crore in  five weeks from India and is a hit plus! BADLA is also on a good overseas run (great in US) grossing over $4m with  £225,000 from UK and $1,865,000 from the US.
