The new release of the week, Anurag Basu's Katrina-Ranbir starrer, JAGGA JASOOS, opened on a reasonable note (9 crore) and saw growing collections as the days progressed, netting in the 33-34 crore range during the opening weekend from India, which gives it a chance to make a decent mark at the box-office, despite the heavy price. Having said that, the weekday run holds the key to the fortunes of the film.
MOM AND JAGGA JASOOS
Meanwhile, Boney Kapoor’s Sridevi, Akshaye Khanna and Nawazuddin Siddiqui (special appearance) starrer, MOM, managed to put up a decent show at the ticket window. Though MOM will not be able to emulate the success of Sridevi’s last venture, ENGLISH VINGLISH, but the opening week figure of 25 crore (to be validated), may help it getting into the profitable zone, depending on the second week run. The film has done reasonably (given the cost and cast) in the overseas, grossing nearly $1m during the opening weekend.
The other release of the same week as MOM, Ashwini Dhar’s Kartitk Aaryan, Paresh Rawal and Kirti Kharabanda starrer, GUEST IN LONDON, failed to tickle the funny bones of the audience netting just around 8 crore during the opening week from India.
