Bollywood Box Office Report Of The Week: 17th May 2018
The coming Friday will see witness bunched releases in the form of Harsh Chhaya’s comic caper, KHAJOOR PE ATKE, Sumeet Vyas’s stoner comedy HIGH JACK, Sanjay Mishra’s romantic comedy ANGREZI MEIN KEHTE HAIN etc. While KHAJOOR PE ATKE and HIGH JACK will fight for vying audience attention, the bunched releases will of course cut into each other and find the going tough as the front runner will once again be the week old RAAZI followed by 102 NOT OUT.
Checking out the Meghna Gulzar directed Alia Bhatt starrer, RAAZI, the film which started on a good to decent note, saw a magical pick up as the days progressed and kept up the tempo even during the weekdays and is likely to end the opening week around the 55 crore mark. As of now RAAZI is all set to be a super hit. RAAZI is also on a superb overseas run grossing over $2m with with £138,000 from UK and $835,000 from the US, during the opening weekend (11-13 May).
The other releases of the same week, PVR Films’ Naseeruddin Shah venture HOPE AUR HUM has been rejected.
Concluding with Hollywood’s AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR (all versions), the film saw another great week as it added 47 crore and has thus netted 205 crore in two weeks from India and is a blockbuster hit. AVENGERS is the first Hollywood venture that has crossed the double century mark in India.
The other release of the same week as 102 NOT OUT, Rajkummar Rao starrer OMERTA could not impress much collecting 75 lakhs from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unrecieved), 10 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 3 lakhs from Surat, 3.50 lakhs from Baroda, 16.75 lakhs from Pune, 1 lakh from Nasik, 1.50 lakhs from Goa, 35 lakhs from Delhi city, 12.50 lakhs from Noida, 5.75 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 2.50 lakhs from Kanpur, 5.50 lakhs from Lucknow, 1.25 lakhs from Allahabad, 1.75 lakhs from Dehradun, 15 lakhs from Gurgaon, 1 lakh from Faridabad, 2.50 lakhs from Chandigarh, 15 lakhs from Calcutta, 1lakh from Patna, 1.25 lakhs from Ranchi, 1.50 lakhs from Bhubaneshwar, 1.50 lakhs from Guwahati, 2 lakhs from Nagpur, 2 lakhs from Raipur, 3 lakhs from Indore, 1.50 lakhs from Gwalior, 4 lakhs from Bhopal (collections from 2 cinemas unrecieved), 3.50 lakhs from Jaipur, 1 lakh from Kota, 5 lakhs from Hyderabad, 1.50 lakhs from Aurangabad and 20 lakhs from Bangalore. Netting 28 crore during the opening week from India, 102 NOT OUT is already a success given that 20 crore has been recovered via satellite and digital rights (out of a total 37 crore investment). 102 NOT OUT has also impressed in the overseas grossing £118,000 from UK and $985,000 from the US, till the second weekend (11-13 May).
