This week’s new releases are Faraz Haider’s NANU KI JAANU and renowned Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi’s BEYOND THE CLOUDS. The front runner will obviously be the Abhay-Patralekha horror comedy NANU KI JAANU. As far as BEYOND THE CLOUDS is concerned, it should appeal to select audiences of high end multiplexes. However with DAAS DEV being pushed ahead (next week), chances are quite bright for NANU KI JAANU to make a mark.

Last Friday’s premier release, Shoojit Sircar’s Varun Dhawan starrer, OCTOBER, saw a fair pick up (after a slow first day) ending the opening weekend netting 15-16 crore (to be validated). Given the 35 crore recovery from online and satellite rights already in, the film should up as a below average to average fare, which will be a creditable effort, given the unusual genre for a mainstream super star. The film is so-so in the overseas grossing £ 35,000 from UK and $230,000 from the US, during the opening weekend (13-15 April).
