The coming Friday will see the release of Raveena Tandon’s Ashtar Sayed directed MAATR (subject to censor clearance), Sonakshi Sinha venture NOOR and Binod Singh’s AJAB SINGH KI GHAZAB KAHANI. Though none of the mentioned films are going to set the box-office on fire but the front runner is likely to be NOOR with MAATR in hot pursuit.
Last week’s prominent release, Mukesh Bhatt’s Vidya Balan starrer BEGUM JAAN, could muster around 12 crore (to be validated) during the opening weekend. Despite a below 20 crore cost and reasonable non-theatricals, the film will have to work hard for a plus or recovery status.
Checking out Vin Diesel’s FAST & FURIOUS 8 (banking on the popularity of the franchise), the film managed a good extended (5-day) weekend netting nearly 50 crore from India and has bright chances of ending up as a hit. Having said that, it could not emulate the success of its predecessor!
Meanwhile, after a decent first week (26 crore), Tapsee Pannu’s NAAM SHABANA, fell heavily in the second collecting 1.50 crore from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unrecieved), 30 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 15.75 lakhs from Surat, 10 lakhs from Baroda , 5.65 lakhs from Rajkot, 40 lakhs from Pune, 5 lakhs from Nasik, 6 lakhs from Goa, 1.50 lakhs from Belgaum, 65 lakhs from Delhi city, 15 lakhs from Noida, 10 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 8 lakhs from Kanpur, 15.75 lakhs from Lucknow , 2.75 lakhs from Agra, 3 lakhs from Allahabad, 5.50 lakhs from Dehradun, 20 lakhs from Gurgaon, 7 lakhs from Faridabad, 1.75 lakhs from Panipat, 7.55 lakhs from Chandigarh, 3 lakhs from Jalandhar, 1.75 lakhs from Patiala, 2.50 lakhs from Amritsar, 5.50 lakhs from Ludhiana, 40 lakhs from Calcutta, 3.50 lakhs from Siliguri, 3.75 lakhs from Patna, 2.50 lakhs from Dhanbad, 3.65 lakhs from Ranchi, 4 lakhs from Bhubaneshwar, 1.50 lakhs from Guwahati, 7.65 lakhs from Nagpur, 8.50lakhs from Raipur, 15lakhs from Indore, 3 lakhs from Gwalior, 8 lakhs from Bhopal, 15 lakhs from Jaipur , 2.50 lakhs from Jodhpur, 1.50 lakhs from Ajmer, 2.25 lakhs from Kota, 3.25 lakhs from Udaipur, 15 lakhs from Hyderabad, 5 lakhs from Aurangabad, 35 lakhs from Bangalore, 1.75 lakhs from Mangalore, 1.15 lakhs from Mysore and 1.25 lakhs from Visakhapatnam. Adding another 8 crore NAAM SHABANA has netted 34 crore in two weeks from India, which is a creditable effort. However, given the reportedly 38-40 crore (all inclusive) price and non-performance in the overseas, the film will be unable to get to a coverage status (losses will be minimal), even after accounting for non-theatrical rights, which are reportedly in the 9-10 crore (Zee TV & T-Series) range.
Concluding for the last time with the Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt starrer, BADRINATH KI DULHANIA, the film added another 1.50 crore, thus netting 117 crore in five weeks from India and is a super hit. BADRINATH KI DULHANIA is also an overseas hit, grossing well over $5m with £400,000 from UK and $1,970,000 from the US.
