The new releases of the week include Vishal Bhardwaj’s Saif, Shahid and Kangana starrer RANGOON, Pooja Entertainment India Ltd.’s MONA DARLING, Nana Patekar & Mahie Gill’s thriller WEDDING ANNIVERSARY, Dev Patel & Nicole Kidman starrer LION (the Oscar-worthy) and the Bipulendra Haloi directed 9 O’CLOCK etc. It is but obvious the front runner by a long shot will be, RANGOON. Having said that, given the heavy budget, RANGOON will have to sustain well, over the first week, to achieve a success tag.




Last week saw the release of Amit Sadh and Taapsee Pannu starrer, RUNNING SHAADI.COM, Naseeruddin Shah’s IRADA and THE GHAZI ATTACK (dubbed). As predicted the best trend and collections were for THE GHAZI ATTACK, as it netted close to 7.50 crore during the opening weekend from India, which is a good haul for a dubbed film. The other two releases saw negligible collections as the audience preferred the week old JOLLY LLB 2.



Checking out the next in the JOLLY LLB series, filmmaker Subhash Kapoor’s Akshay Kumar starrer, JOLLY LLB 2, after a good opening weekend (50 crore), the film maintained quite well during the weekdays collecting 8.55 crore from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 2.50 crore from Ahmedabad, 85 lakhs from Surat, 61.50 lakhs from Baroda , 25.50 lakhs from Rajkot, 2.50 crore from Pune, 30.50 lakhs from Nasik, 45 lakhs from Goa, 10.50 lakhs from Belgaum, 7.25 crore from Delhi city, 1.75 crore from Noida, 1.50 crore from Ghaziabad, 55 lakhs from Kanpur, 1.50 crore from Lucknow , 37.25 lakhs from Agra, 18 lakhs from Allahabad, 7.50 lakhs from Aligarh, 56 lakhs from Dehradun, 1.75 crore from Gurgaon, 80 lakhs from Faridabad, 9.50 lakhs from Kurukshetra, 15.50 lakhs from Panipat, 75.65 lakhs from Chandigarh, 41.20 lakhs from Jalandhar, 19 lakhs from Patiala, 31 lakhs from Amritsar, 50 lakhs from Ludhiana, 12.15 lakhs from Bhatinda, 9.50 lakhs from Ambala, 4.25 lakhs from Shimla, 4.50 lakhs from Jammu, 2 crore from Calcutta, 2.50 lakhs from Darjeeling, 20 lakhs from Siliguri, 35 lakhs from Patna, 13.15 lakhs from Dhanbad, 22.35 lakhs from Ranchi, 20 lakhs from Bhubaneshwar, 7.50 lakhs from Guwahati, 60 lakhs from Nagpur, 50 lakhs from Raipur, 1.15 crore from Indore, 25 lakhs from Gwalior (collections from 3 cinemas unrecieved), 70 lakhs from Bhopal (collections from 3 cinemas unrecieved), 1.75 crore from Jaipur (collections from 3 cinemas unrecieved), 30 lakhs from Jodhpur, 13.25 lakhs from Ajmer, 25 lakhs from Kota, 26.50 lakhs from Udaipur, 1.75 crore from Hyderabad, 28.25 lakhs from Aurangabad, 2.50 crore from Bangalore, 18.20 lakhs from Mangalore, 13.65 lakhs from Mysore, 2.50 lakhs from Vijayawada, 10 lakhs from Visakhapatnam, 12 lakhs from Madras, 2 lakhs from Coimbatore and 12.75 lakhs from Kochi. Netting 74 crore (approx) during the during the opening week from India, JOLLY LLB 2 is all set to be a clean hit, given the continuing stable run. JOLLY LLB 2 is doing very well in the overseas grossing $4.75m with £265,000 from UK and $1,430,000 from the US, till the second weekend (17-19 February).

The other release of the same week, Guru Ram Rahim Ji Insaan’s latest offering, HIND KA NAPAAK KO JAWAB, failed to make much of a mark commercially barring parts of North. During the opening week , HIND KA NAPAAK KO JAWAB has netted around 2.75 crore and is a commercial failure.



Moving on, Red Chillies Entertainments’ Shah Rukh Khan, Nawazuddin and Mahira starrer RAEES, is on the last leg of its successful run as it collected 35 lakhs from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 20 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 5 lakhs from Surat, 2.85 lakhs from Baroda, 1.50 lakhs from Rajkot, 6.50 lakhs from Pune, 1.25 lakhs from Goa, 25 lakhs from Delhi city, 5 lakhs from Noida, 2.75 from Ghaziabad, 2 lakhs from Kanpur, 5 lakhs from Lucknow , 1.50 lakhs from Dehradun, 5 lakhs from Gurgaon, 1 lakh from Faridabad, 1.75 lakhs from Chandigarh, 1.25 lakhs from Jalandhar, 1.15 lakhs from Amritsar, 1.50 lakhs from Ludhiana, 15 lakhs from Calcutta, 1.50 lakhs from Siliguri, 1 lakh from Ranchi, 1 lakh from Bhubaneshwar, 5 lakhs from Nagpur, 2 lakhs from Raipur, 3 lakhs from Indore, 1 lakh from Gwalior, 5 lakhs from Bhopal, 5 lakhs from Jaipur, 1.50 lakhs from Udaipur, 10 lakhs from Hyderabad , 5.65 lakhs from Aurangabad and 15 lakhs from Bangalore. With another 2.50 crore, RAEES has netted 134 crore in three weeks from India and will end at just over the above average mark. RAEES is a good overseas hit grossing $13.50m with £1,250,000 and $3,510,000 from the US.



Concluding with FilmKraft’s Hrithik Roshan, Ronit Roy and Yami Gautam starrer KAABIL, the film is coming to the end of its successful run collecting 50 lakhs from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 20 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 10 lakhs from Surat, 5 lakhs from Baroda, 2.75 lakhs from Rajkot, 11.50 lakhs from Pune, 1.75 lakhs from Nasik, 2.50 lakhs from Goa, 35 lakhs from Delhi city, 6.25 lakhs from Noida, 5 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 3.25 lakhs from Kanpur, 6 lakhs from Lucknow , 1 lakh from Agra, 1.25 lakhs from Allahabad, 1.75 lakhs from Dehradun, 6.15 lakhs from Gurgaon, 2.15 lakhs from Faridabad, 4 lakhs from Chandigarh, 1.75 lakhs from Jalandhar, 1 lakh from Patiala, 1.75 lakhs from Amritsar, 3 lakhs from Ludhiana, 20 lakhs from Calcutta, 1.25 lakhs from Ranchi, 2.15 lakhs from Bhubaneshwar, 3.75 lakhs from Nagpur, 3.50 lakhs from Raipur, 5lakhs from Indore, 1 lakh from Gwalior, 2.75 lakhs from Bhopal , 7 lakhs from Jaipur, 1. 35 lakhs from Jodhpur, 1 lakh from Kota, 1.50 lakhs from Udaipur, 10 lakhs from Hyderabad, 1.25 lakhs from Aurangabad and 20 lakhs from Bangalore. Adding another 3.75 crore, KAABIL has netted 97 crore in three weeks from India and will end at just past the above average mark. KAABIL has done quite well in the overseas grossing $4m with £425,000 from UK and $1,375,00 from the US.
