Bollywood Box Office Report Of The Week: 23rd Mar 2019

The premier Holi release,  Akshay Kumar and Parineeti Chopra starrer, KESARI, expectedly saw a dull 20 percent start (good for Holi day), but from the afternoon shows the film picked up big and at end of the first day  netted 22 crore ( 2019’s highest). The second day is even bigger and the film is all set for a bumper extended 4-day weekend and a success tag, despite a heavy budget (approx. 80 crore).

 The other release of the week, Ronnie Screwvala’s MARD KO DARD NAHI HOTA saw a very ordinary start. 

All the releases of last week, Tigmanshu Dhulia’s MILAN TALKIES ,  the  Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra directed MERE PYAARE PRIME MINISTER, Ritesh Batra’s Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer, PHOTOGRAPH and Krishna Abhishek’s SHARMAJI KI LAG GAYI etc,  have failed at the box-office. Comparatively speaking the best performance came from PHOTOGRAPH followed by MILAN TALKIES.

With another 12 crore TOTAL DHAMAAL has netted 144 crore in three weeks from India and is a hit plus. TOTAL DHAMAAL is a good overseas hit grossing well over $6m with £515,000 from UK and $2,150,000 from the US, till the fourth weekend (15-17 March).

Concluding with Excel Entertainment’s Zoya Akhtar directed Ranveer-Alia starrer, GULLY BOY, the film added another 2.50 crore and has netted 135.50 crore in four weeks from India and is a semi-hit. The film is superb in the overseas (especially US), grossing over $6m with £600,000 from UK and $4,700,000 from the US.
