The coming Friday will witness the release of Anushka-Diljit’s PHILLAURI, Swara Bhaskar starrer ANAARKALI OF ARRAH as well as M.A. PASS (in Bombay). As things stand, PHILLAURI is likely to be the leader followed by ANAARKALI OF ARRAH, though not much is expected by way of a big start. Having said that the low all inclusive budget (around 20 crore) and the reasonable face value is what makes PHILLAURI the dark horse.

Last week’s multiple releases, Govinda’s AA GAYA HERO, Abbas-Mustan’s MACHINE, Vikramaditya Motwani directed Rajkummar Rao starrer TRAPPED and the Rajat Kapoor venture MANTRA, failed to make any impact whatsoever at the box-office, as the audience preferred the week old BADRINATH KI DULHANIA as well as the Hollywood release BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. For the stat conscious, the front runner was MACHINE, followed by TRAPPED and MANTRA, in that order, though the collections were nothing to write home about!

Netting 74 crore during the opening week from India, BADRINATH KI DULHANIA is on way to a sure shot super hit status (the first of 2017), taking into account the second week run, and the 55 crore (all inclusive) cost. The film is on a winning run in the overseas too, grossing $4.75m with £330,000 from UK and $1,590,000 from the US, till the second weekend (17-19 March).

Concluding with the Vidyut Jamwal , Adah Sharma and Esha Gupta starrer, COMMANDO 2- THE BLACK MONEY TRAIL, the film crashed badly in the wake of BADRINATH KI DULHANIA, and ended its run netting 27 crore (including dubbed versions) in two weeks from India. As a best case scenario, the film can be dubbed a below average fare, that too after accounting for the non-theatrical rights.
