This Friday’s two new releases include Rajkumar Hirani Films & UTV’s R. Madhavan starrer SAALA KHADOOS and PNC Productions’ Sunny Leone venture MASTIZAADE. With AIRLIFT still being the sought after film, it will prove to be a tough opposition for both the new films. Having said that, SAALA KHADOOS will appeal to the multiplexes while MASTIZAADE will cater to the single screen audience.

AIRLIFT AND KYAA KOOL HAIN HUM 3
AIRLIFT AND KYAA KOOL HAIN HUM 3

Checking out the Raja Krishna Menon directed Akshay Kumar and Nimrat Kaur starrer, AIRLIFT, after a good opening weekend (44 crore), the collections continued to lift remarkably (except for the normal working Monday fall) on each day. The film is likely to end up netting 84-85 crore during the opening week; a figure that is more than the entire run of most of Akshay’s recent starrers. As things stand, AIRLIFT is sure to be the first hit of 2016, how big, time will tell! AIRLIFT is quite strong in the overseas grossing $2.80m, with £170,000 from UK and $820,000 from the US during the opening weekend (22-24 January).

The other release of the same week, Tusshar Kapoor, Aftab Shivdasani and Mandana Karimi starrer, KYAA KOOL HAIN HUM 3, could not match the pre-release hype. The opening day was decent and the opening weekend quite fair (18-19 crore) but the run after that was not (barring Republic day)! While KYAA KOOL HAIN HUM 3 is going to be a success, more due to the modest budget (reportedly 25 crore), but will not proceed much beyond that.
