We start this week’s report with our monotonous, repetitive but factual line- Films releasing a week before a touted blockbuster, releasing on a festive occasion, suffer a lot despite good cinematic qualities as the audience prefers to wait for the biggies. And so YRF’s THUGS OF HINDUSTAN throws an undecipherable conundrum to this week’s new releases, Arbaaz-Amit starrer JACK AND DIL, the suspense thriller LUPT and a few others! Needless to add, that it is JUST JACK AND DIL and LUPT that can harbour some chances of success!

 

 

Last week saw multiple releases -Saif Ali Khan’s business crime drama, BAZAAR, Sharman Joshi’s suspense thriller, KAASHI, Neil Nitin Mukesh’s political thriller, DASSEHRA, Gautam Simgh’s GAON- THE VILLAGE NO MORE, Shakti Kapoor’s THE JOURNEY OF KARMA etc. From the list it was just BAAZAAR which managed fair performance and likely to end the first week with a 17-18 crore haul. The remaining releases are washouts.

 

Checking out the Dussehra release, Vipul Amrutlal Shah’s Arjun-Parineeti starrer NAMASTE ENGLAND, the film was a no show collecting 75 lakhs from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unrecieved), 15 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 8 lakhs from Surat, 4.75 lakhs from Baroda, 3 lakhs from Rajkot, 20 lakhs from Pune, 3.25 lakhs from Nasik, 4.25 lakhs from Goa, 65 lakhs from Delhi city, 15 lakhs from Noida, 15 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 10.75 lakhs from Kanpur, 16.25 lakhs from Lucknow, 6.50 lakhs from Agra, 5 lakhs from Allahabad, 2 lakhs from Aligarh, 4.25 lakhs from Dehradun, 10 lakhs from Gurgaon, 5.50 lakhs from Faridabad, 2.50 lakhs from Panipat, 3lakhs from Chandigarh,3 lakhs from Jalandhar, 2.50 lakhs from Amritsar, 3.50 lakhs from Ludhiana, 1.50 lakhs from Bhatinda, 1.50 lakhs from Jammu, 30 lakhs from Calcutta, 1 lakh from Darjeeling, 4.50 lakhs from Siliguri, 5.75 lakhs from Patna, 2.55 lakhs from Dhanbad, 2.75 lakhs from Ranchi, 2 lakhs from Bhubaneshwar, 3 lakhs from Guwahati, 5 lakhs from Nagpur, 5 lakhs from Raipur, 15 lakhs from Jaipur (collections from 2 cinemas unrecieved), 2.50 lakhs from Jodhpur, 1.75 lakhs from Ajmer, 1 lakh from Bikaner, 2.50 lakhs from Kota, 3 lakhs from Udaipur, 20lakhs from Hyderabad, 3.50 lakhs from Aurangabad, 20 lakhs from Bangalore, 1.55 lakhs from Visakhapatnam and 1.75 lakhs from Madras .

 

The other Dussehra release, Junglee Pictures Ayushmann, Sanya and Nina Gupta starrer BADHAAI HO, turned to be a huge hit as it collected 8.50 crore from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unrecieved), 1.50 crore from Ahmedabad, 50 lakhs from Surat, 36 lakhs from Baroda, 10 lakhs from Rajkot, 3 crore from Pune, 21 lakhs from Nasik, 22.25 lakhs from Goa, 7.75 lakhs from Belgaum, 9 crore from Delhi city, 2.25 crore from Noida, 1.85 crore from Ghaziabad, 52 lakhs from Kanpur, 1.25 crore from Lucknow, 34.25 lakhs from Agra, 23 lakhs from Allahabad, 9 lakhs from Aligarh,55.50 lakhs from Dehradun, 2.50 crore from Gurgaon, 81.50 lakhs from Faridabad, 6.25 lakhs from Kurukshetra, 13.50 lakhs from Panipat, 50.75 lakhs from Chandigarh, 28.50 lakhs from Jalandhar, 12.25 lakhs from Patiala, 27.25 lakhs from Amritsar, 50 lakhs from Ludhiana, 7.50 lakhs from Bhatinda, 6.25 lakhs from Ambala, 11.75 lakhs from Jammu, 2.50 crore from Calcutta, 16 lakhs from Siliguri, 17 lakhs from Patna, 10 lakhs from Dhanbad, 20 lakhs from Ranchi, 18 lakhs from Bhubaneshwar, 20 lakhs from Guwahati, 6.50 lakhs from Muzaffarpur, 45 lakhs from Nagpur, 45 lakhs from Raipur, 1.75 crore from Jaipur , 25.75 lakhs from Jodhpur, 12 lakhs from Ajmer, 7 lakhs from Bikaner, 20 lakhs from Kota, 24.50 lakhs from Udaipur, 80 lakhs from Hyderabad, 14 lakhs from Aurangabad, 2.50 crore from Bangalore, 12.25 lakhs from Mangalore, 10 lakhs from Mysore, 2.50 lakhs from Vijayawada, 7 lakhs from Visakhapatnam, 12 lakhs from Madras and 3.75 lakhs from Kochi. Netting 60.50 crore during the opening week from India, BADHAAI HO is on way to super hit status. The film has also impressed in the overseas grossing $2.80m with 220,000 from UK and $1,550,000 from the US till the second weekend (26-28 October).

 

Meanwhile, Sriram Raghavan’s Ayushmann, Tabu and Radhika starrer, ANDHADHUN, held strong collecting 2.50 crore from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unrecieved), 40 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 12 lakhs from Surat, 9.25 lakhs from Baroda, 5 lakhs from Rajkot, 1 crore from Pune, 5.25 lakhs from Nasik, 5.75 lakhs from Goa, 3.50 lakhs from Belgaum, 1 crore from Delhi city, 28.25 lakhs from Noida, 16 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 5.50 lakhs from Kanpur, 22 lakhs from Lucknow, 2.25 lakhs from Agra, 1.50 lakhs from Allahabad, 5.50 lakhs from Dehradun, 35 lakhs from Gurgaon, 7 lakhs from Faridabad, 7.50 lakhs from Chandigarh,2 lakhs from Jalandhar, 1,50 lakhs from Patiala, 2.25 lakhs from Amritsar, 4.25 lakhs from Ludhiana, 55 lakhs from Calcutta, 3.25 lakhs from Siliguri, 4.50 lakhs from Patna, 2.50 lakhs from Dhanbad, 3.75 lakhs from Ranchi, 3 lakhs from Bhubaneshwar, 4.25 lakhs from Guwahati, 1 lakh from Muzaffarpur, 10.50 lakhs from Nagpur, 6.50 lakhs from Raipur,20 lakhs from Jaipur , 3 lakhs from Jodhpur, 1.50 lakhs from Ajmer, 2.25 lakhs from Kota, 3.50 lakhs from Udaipur, 25 lakhs from Hyderabad, 3.25 lakhs from Aurangabad, 85 lakhs from Bangalore, 3.25 lakhs from Mangalore, 2.25 lakhs from Mysore, 1.75lakhs from Visakhapatnam, 2 lakhs from Madras and 1.50 lakhs from Kochi. Adding another 11 crore ANDHADHUN has netted 60 crore in three weeks from India and is a hit plus. ANDHADHUN is also an overseas success grossing $2m with £118,000 from UK and $960,000 from the US.
