This Friday will witness an interesting clash between two fun films, the latest in the YPD franchise, Sunny Sounds Pvt Ltd and Pen India Pvt Ltd’s YAMLA PAGLA DEEWAANA: PHIR SE along with the Maddock Films and D2R Film Pvt Ltd’s STREE. It is difficult to choose between the two though one feels that the Deols’ venture will impress the North, East Punjab and the hinterland while the Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor starrer STREE will appeal to the discerning audience, read as, those who want to watch something entertaining but hat ke!
Last week saw the release of the Jimmy Sheirgill, Sonakhshi Sinha, Ali Fazal and Diana Penty starrer HAPPY PHIRR BHAG JAYEGI and Anil ‘Gadar’ Sharma’s Utkarsh, Nawaz venture, GENIUS. As expected neither of the two could achieve anything substantial (especially GENIUS), HAPPY PHIRR BHAG JAYEGI did manage a 12 crore opening weekend while GENIUS was well below the mark at around 3 crore. While GENIUS is a washout, HAPPY PHIRR BHAG JAYEGI can still manage to make amends by showing strong legs during the second week.

Coming to the Anubhav Sinha directed Rishi-Taapsee starrer MULK, the film lasted more than most had predicted (post SATYAMEVA JAYATE and GOLD) as it collected 30 lakhs from Bombay (collections from cinemas unreceived), 5 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1.50 lakhs from Surat, 1.50 lakhs from Baroda, 7 lakhs from Pune, 20 lakhs from Delhi city, 6.55 lakhs from Noida, 15 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 5 lakhs from Lucknow, 2.50 lakhs from Gurgaon, 1.50 lakhs from Chandigarh, 10 lakhs from Calcutta, 2.50 lakhs from Siliguri, 4 lakhs from Patna, 1.50 lakhs from Dhanbad, 2 lakhs from Bhubaneshwar, 1.50 lakhs from Muzaffarpur, 1.50 lakhs from Nagpur, 1.50 lakhs from Indore, 1.50 lakhs from Jaipur , 2.50 lakhs from Hyderabad and 10 lakhs from Bangalore. With another 1.50 crore, KARWAAN has netted 19 crore in three weeks from India remains a below average fare. Additionally, KARWAAN has also grossed $200,000 from the US.
