Bollywood Box Office Report Of The Week: 7th September 2018

This week will witness multiple releases in the form of Imtiaz Ali’s LAILA MAJNU, the Manoj Bajpayee starrer GALI GULEIYAN, J.P. ‘Border’ Dutta directed PALTAN as also Shiv Nadar Foundations’ HALKAA. One feels that the front runner is likely to be LAILA MAJNU with PALTN a close second. Having said that, STREE still has it to scare away the newbies, which anyhow, will manage to damage each other.

 

Last week saw the release of Maddock Films and D2R Film Pvt Ltd’s Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor starrer STREE and what a lady (film) she turned out to be! After a superb 32 crore weekend the film saw rock steady weekdays (even post the Monday Holiday) and should end the opening week at around 59-60 crore and a super hit if not more, given the reasonable all inclusive release cost (24 crore).

 

The other release of the same week as STREE, the latest in the YPD franchise, Sunny Sounds Pvt Ltd and Pen India Pvt Ltd’s YAMLA PAGLA DEEWAANA: PHIR SE , was rejected by the audience netting barely 6.50 crore during the opening weekend.

Meanwhile, Anil Sharma’s Utkarsh, Nawaz venture, GENIUS, turned out to be a damp squib collecting 50 lakhs from Bombay(collections from cinemas unreceived), 10 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 25 lakhs from Delhi city, 5 lakhs from Noida, 10 lakhs from Kanpur, 15 lakhs from Lucknow, 10 lakhs from Calcutta, 5 lakhs from Indore, 10 lakhs from Jaipur, 5 lakhs from Hyderabad and 5 lakhs from Bangalore. Netting 5 crore during the first week, GENIUS is a washout.

With another 10 crore, SATYAMEVA JAYATE has netted 85 crore in two weeks 916-days) from India and is a semi-hit.

 

Concluding with the Anubhav Sinha directed Rishi-Taapsee starrer MULK, the film added another 0.80 crore thus netting 23.30 crore in four weeks from India and is a creditable average plus fare.
