The coming Holi week, will witness the release of the next probable success of 2017, the Varun Dhawan and Aliya Bhatt starrer, BADRINATH KI DULHANIA. The promos have done the job and a couple of tracks from the audio are already popular, which means that the Shashank Khaitan directed film will embark on a reasonably good start and the extra holidays in the week will boost the prospects of the film further.BADRINATH KI DULHANIA MOVIE STILLS
The other films listed for release are PURAB KI AWAZ and GARAM RETH & M.A. PASS 10th (In Bombay). It is another matter whether they actually release or not. Needless to add that the films do not have much with BADRINATH KI DULHANIA being a formidable opposition.
Meanwhile, last week’s Vidyut Jamwal , Adah Sharma and Esha Gupta starrer, COMMANDO 2- THE BLACK MONEY TRAIL, managed a decent opening weekend netting 16 crore and maintained reasonably (mid-level collections) during the weekdays. Given the limited budget and fairly good recovery from non-theatrical rights, COMMANDO 2, may just sneak through to be a reasonable success for all concerned, provided it manages even a half decent run during the second weekend.
Checking out Vishal Bhardwaj’s Saif, Shahid and Kangana starrer, RANGOON, the film failed to strike a chord with the audience collecting 2.85 crore from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 45 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 21.75 lakhs from Surat, 11.75 lakhs from Baroda , 6.65 lakhs from Rajkot, 65lakhs from Pune, 7.50 lakhs from Nasik, 11.50 lakhs from Goa, 2.50 lakhs from Belgaum, 2.15 crore from Delhi city, 50 lakhs from Noida, 25 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 15.75 lakhs from Kanpur, 30 lakhs from Lucknow , 7.50 lakhs from Agra, 6.55 lakhs from Allahabad, 2 lakhs from Aligarh, 15.20 lakhs from Dehradun, 60 lakhs from Gurgaon, 17.55 lakhs from Faridabad, 2.15 lakhs from Kurukshetra, 3.50 lakhs from Panipat, 23.65 lakhs from Chandigarh, 10 lakhs from Jalandhar, 5 lakhs from Patiala, 8 lakhs from Amritsar, 13.50 lakhs from Ludhiana, 3.15 lakhs from Bhatinda, 1.75lakhs from Ambala, 1.25 lakhs from Shimla, 2 lakhs from Jammu, 60 lakhs from Calcutta, 1lakh from Darjeeling, 6 lakhs from Siliguri, 9 lakhs from Patna, 3.65 lakhs from Dhanbad, 5.55 lakhs from Ranchi, 7 lakhs from Bhubaneshwar, 3.15 lakhs from Guwahati, 12 lakhs from Nagpur, 12.50 lakhs from Raipur, 25 lakhs from Indore, 5 lakhs from Gwalior (collections from 3 cinemas unrecieved), 15 lakhs from Bhopal (collections from 3 cinemas unrecieved), 45 lakhs from Jaipur (collections from 2 cinemas unrecieved), 6 lakhs from Jodhpur(collections from 3 cinemas unrecieved), 1.50 lakhs from Bikaner, 3.25 lakhs from Ajmer, 4.25 lakhs from Kota, 7 lakhs from Udaipur, 45 lakhs from Hyderabad, 7.50 lakhs from Aurangabad, 85 lakhs from Bangalore, 3.25 lakhs from Mangalore, 4.75 lakhs from Mysore, 2.15 lakhs from Vijayawada, 5.15 lakhs from Visakhapatnam, 4.50 lakhs from Madras and 5 lakhs from Kochi. Netting 20 crore during the opening week from India, RANGOON is a box-office disaster, taking into account the big budget (60 crore), not to talk of the total release cost. RANGOON has also disappointed in the overseas grossing $1.25m with £90,000 from UK and $475,000 from the US, till the second weekend (3-5 March).
