Bollywood's tribute to Graham Staines

Bollywood films are not just about wholesome entertainment but sending the right messages as well. The famed Staines murder case, which rocked the nation, will be filmed in Hindi and English. Titled 'Murder of Missionary', the film is being directed Sunil Agnihotri and will look back on the life and activities of the Staines family. For those who are unaware about the case, Graham Staines, an Australian missionary, was in Orissa, helping out leprosy patients, since 1965. In 1999, when Graham and his two sons were sleeping in their station wagon, Dara Singh led a mob, shouting slogans against Staines. The trio was burnt alive, and four years later Dara Singh was sentenced to death, whereas 12 others were sentenced to life imprisonment. For the role of Graham, Agnihotri intends to rope in a Hollywood star, whereas Irfan Khan will enact Dara Singh's role. "I want to give a message through the film that religious enmity does not serve any purpose. It only creates hatred among human beings", says Agnihotri.
