We always eagerly wait for the announcement of the movie which is going to be chosen as the official entry from India for the Oscars. This year, COURT which was written and directed by Chaitanya Tamhane has made it way to the Oscars from India.

As we got this news, we tried to get in touch with Chaitanya, who is currently out of India. But we weren’t disappointed and managed to get his reaction to the big news via email. He said, “At every juncture of the film's journey, we have felt that it has given us more than we could ever imagine. Once again, this has come as a genuine surprise to both Vivek and me. Ever since we started making the film, we kept our expectations low. Especially in this case, since these results tend to be so unpredictable, it just felt like a wise thing to not expect too much. Now that it has actually happened, we would like to thank the jury for their decision and everyone who has supported the film so far.”

COURT, which was Chaitanya’s directorial debut, was also premiered at the 71st Venice International Film Festival and it won the Best Film award in the Horizons category. Not only that, the film won 18 other awards at film festivals, including honours at the Mumbai, Vienna, Antalya, and Singapore film festivals. The film also won the Best Feature Film award at the 62nd National Film Awards.
