Devgn's SHIVAAY & Ranbir's ADHM usher in a bountiful Diwali!
It has been quite a bountiful Diwali weekend for the Hindi film industry, as the two hot releases, producer-director-actor Ajay Devgn’s high octane action thriller SHIVAAY and Karan Johar’s Aishwarya, Ranbir, Anushka starrer AE DIL HAI MUSHKIL, an emotional and passionate romantic drama managed a bountiful weekend netting 62 crore, between them, despite the pre-Diwali days!AE DIL HAI MUSHKIL AND SHIVAAY
Coming to the details, AE DIL HAI MUSHKIL which started on a good note (13.50 crore first day) ended the weekend netting 36 crore from India. Expectedly, the film saw a jump on Monday and crossed the 50 crore mark (four days) from India. ADHM is superb in the overseas and in fact, a one horse race, grossing $6.20m with US being magical at $2.2m, during the opening weekend (28-30 October).
The other Diwali release, SHIVAAY, which started on a fair note (9.50 crore first day) ended the weekend netting 26 crore and just as we had said, the film saw a huge jump on Monday, thus crossing the 40 crore mark (four days) from India. SHIVAAY though is so-so in the overseas.
While that is only half the work done, both SHIVAAY (105 crore raw budget) and ADHM (92 crore all inclusive) still have a lot of work ahead, as the working day starts Tuesday onwards.
As far as the non-theatrical rights are concerned, ADHM is in a much better position with almost 70 percent recovery of the total investment already in. The same figures have not been made available by the makers of SHIVAAY.
