Ever since the news of SANJU biopic came, there were huge expectations by fans as it was directed by Raj Kumar Hirani starring Ranbir Kapoor.
After several looks of Ranbir coming out and his striking resemblance to Sanjay Dutt has garner huge response.
The film also stars Manisha Koirala, Dia Mirza, Anushka Sharma, Sonam Kapoor, Paresh Rawal in pivotal roles.
Dia Mirza who is seen as Manyata Dutt is coming in a film after six years, certainly Dia is elated to be part of SANJU.
During media interaction with Dia Mirza she opened up about the hardships she faced while getting work and what took her six years to get work and why she feels Sanjay Dutt wouldn’t do a biopic of his own.
Dia believes that work opportunities start thinning out for female actors after they reach a certain age as filmmakers and some male actors above 50 prefer to cast young heroines. Dia is of the view not that welcoming to female actors in their mid-30s.made a valid point to which most of you will agree too, Dia at the media interaction s for SANJU said, “For women (actors), especially once they hit their mid-30s, opportunities, unfortunately, start shrinking because some filmmakers want to cast young actresses and most male actors, who have well passed their 50s, (also) want to work with the younger talent. One needs to break through this. It is going to take some fundamental changes in the way we approach our cinema whether it is about every woman making her choices or choosing to marry when she wants and continue to be a professional.”
She further went on to say citing examples of veteran actors like Sharmila Tagore, Waheeda Rehman and Smita Patil, who continued to get roles after marriage, Dia adds, “Today’s actors have to push themselves, explore opportunities, and even create them for themselves”.
Talking about her own journey Dia avers, “I waited for two-and-half years from the time I finished my Iranian film to hear from a credible filmmaker asking me to be a part of his film. In December 2016, I got a call from Rajkumar Hirani for SANJU. I was leaving for a vacation at that time. Raju sir (Rajkumar Hirani) told me to come to my office as he wanted to narrate a film. I told him that I am traveling. He said I might have to cancel the trip. He said that if I like the film and role, we will have to start reading immediately as the shooting will begin in 15 days.”
Salman Khan recently commented that the last seven-eight years of Sanjay Dutt’s life in his biopic SANJU should have been played by the actor himself. While Ranbir Kapoor, who portrays Dutt in the movie, has already said that it hasn’t happened that an actor has played himself in his biopic, Dia Mirza says, “I don’t know if it would make sense. Sanjay Dutt starring in his own biopic sounds so strange. It would be awkward. Also, he is very shy even when we ask him if he has seen any part of the film.”
She further adds saying, “Honestly, Sanjay wouldn’t want to do it. But you never know, maybe it would be interesting. However, Ranbir (Kapoor) is doing it and he is awesome.”
