Hail the king, hail Simba in the iconic trailer of THE LION KING
The first look at the live-action of 1994 classic remake THE LION KING is finally here. The film accurately replicates the opening scene of the beloved 1994 original animated film and fans are already loving it by its first look itself.
The film is produced by Walt Disney Pictures and helmed by IRON MAN director Jon Favreau, we hear voices of high profile star cast which includes, Donald Glover as Simba, Beyonce as Nala, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Alfre Woodard as Simba’s mother Sarabi, John Oliver as Zazu, John Kani as Rafiki, Florence Kasumba as Shenzi, Eric André as Azizi, and Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen as Timon and Pumbaa. JD McCrary and Shahadi Wright Joseph will play young Simba and young Nala. Hans Zimmer is also returning to score the film.
In the trailer, we can see what look like the opening moments of the movie, in which Rafiki presents a young Simba to the animals of the Pride Lands, This first trailer also shows the re-creation of one of the most iconic scenes from the classic, where Rafiki holds up the newborn Simba for all of the Pride Rock animals to see. James Earl Jones’ narration as Mufasa plays while the original film’s opening track, Circle of Life can be heard in the background. Bringing back James Earl Jones as Mufasa was the best move Disney could've made with this remake. Sadly, fans already know how his story ends, but at least he'll get another chance to roar on the big screen. The picturization and CGI look accurate and real. Looks like 2019 will be Disney's, as they are also set to release their online streaming service titled Disney Plus.
Jon Favreau, who also directed Disney’s live-action THE JUNGLE BOOK in 2016, along with the BEAUTY AND THE BEAST last year and they are also prepping up of live-action remakes of DUMBO, ALADDIN, LADY AND THE TRAMP and MULAN in the coming years. The first footage of the highly anticipated remake was shown last summer to fans at D23. CinemaCon attendees also got a sneak peek of the opening sequence earlier this year.
THE LION KING is set to hit theaters on July 19, 2019.
