E-City Films bags exclusive distribution rights for KAAFILA
E-City Ventures promoted E-City Films Pvt. Ltd. (ECF) today announced that it has acquired exclusive distribution rights for the movie KAAFILA in Delhi, Mumbai, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Saurashtra and Andhra Pradesh. E-City Films has entered into a distribution tie-up with Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd for the distribution rights of the movie.
Confirming the deal, Mr. Amit Dhanuka, Vice President, E-City Films, says, ?E-City Films is committed to providing audiences in Indian sub-continent with the finest global celluloid experiences through a bouquet of films of every genre, and also to take the best of Indian entertainment to the discerning audiences worldwide. We aim to be a strategic link between independent studio productions and Indian theatre audiences. KAAFILA fits in beautifully with our vision, since it depicts the harsh realities of illegal immigration afflicting the Indian sub-continent and Asia as a whole.?
Mr. Dhanuka further adds, ?KAAFILA is an action-packed patriotic movie that revolves around a sensitive issue that has never been explored before in Indian cinema. It is the story of a group of people who are traveling illegally to the UK. Besides Sunny Deol (Sameer) who has carved an unparalleled patriotic niche in the hearts of Indian audiences, the film is also drawing anticipated interest for Sana Nawaz, one of the top-ranking actresses from Pakistan, who plays the female lead (Palvesha) in the film. Another big attraction is Miss Bulgaria Polina, who plays Sunny Deol?s wife.? E-City Films will be releasing KAAFILA in 125 prints, confirmed Mr. Dhanuka.
Directed by director-actor Ammtoje Mann of HAWAAYEIN fame which depicted the truth behind Punjab?s Operation Blue Star and the 1984 riots, this Tony Sandhu production presented by Mannerism Films has been shot in the exotic locales of Bulgaria, Ukraine, Russian Federation, United Kingdom and United States of America besides Mumbai, Ladakh and Manali in India.
The star line up also includes Ammotje Mann himself, Sudesh Beri, Ashish Duggal, others from the theatre and modeling world and few artists from Bulgaria and Uzbekistan. Written, scripted and directed by Ammtoje Mann, the film will have dialogues by Varun Gautam, cinematography by Nazir Khan, music by well-known singer Sukhwinder with lyrics by Babu Singh Mann. Other credits include action by Asad Sikandar, editing by Sanjay Jaiswal and choreography by Raju Khan.
Among other tragedies, the film shows the horror of the Malta Boat Tragedy in which about 400 South Asian illegal immigrants drowned on the Christmas Day in 1996. The causalities included 170 from India, 88 from Pakistan and 149 from Sri Lanka. All these people were illegal immigrants who drowned in the Malta-Sicily channel when their boat collided with a ship. This incident brought the plight of illegal immigrants into international limelight and exposed the real horrors faced by these immigrants who travel illegally to western countries.
Says Mr. Amit Dhanuka, ?Like HAWAAYEIN, which created quite a buzz, KAAFILA too is a movie that depicts reality. The movie is based on extensive research with real life experiences of people who have traveled illegally and have barely managed to come back alive.?
