For SHANGHAI, everything has pretty much fallen well in place, what with Emraan Hashmi and Abhay Deol being seen on the big screen after the super success of MURDER 2, THE DIRTY PICTURE and ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA. No wonder, director Dibakar Banerjee can be seen grinning from ear to ear even as one waits for the announcement around the eventual release plans for the film.

Well yes, all of that has worked quite well for SHANGHAI," acknowledges Dibakar, "When a film like ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA works well, it pretty much reaffirms that audience is willing to accept such different cinematic experiences. It was a huge commercial success and also showed Abhay in an altogether different avatar. So now when he is seen in SHANGHAI, Abhay is labeled as an actor who has done so well in films like MANORAMA - SIX FEET UNDER, OYE LUCKY LUCKY OYE, DEV D or a ZNMD. Same holds good for Emraan who now has a franchise like MURDER against his name and also a huge success in THE DIRTY PICTURE."

However Dibakar isn't still willing to breathe easy just because his lead actors are now much bigger in stature than what they were a year ago.

"While these laurels are all good, eventually SHANGHAI has to do well on its own. Even Abhay is treating the film as if it has been his first ever. Ditto for Emraan, who has gone ahead with his altogether different look and persona for the film. It was quite courageous on their part to accept the kind of roles that have been written for them. Both of them are doing something that is miles away from the preconceived image that one has about them. Trust me, Abhay as well as Emraan would throw a revelation in SHANGHAI."

Well, we hope this indeed comes out to be true Dibakar. With Kalki Koechlin as the leading lady and veteran actors Prosenjit Chatterjee and Farooq Sheikh added further weight to the project, SHANGHAI is all set for release by mid-2012.
