Exclusive: Kay Kay Menon: People tend to misuse freedom on web series

Kay Kay Menon, is a versatile actor he has entertained us with many films in the past and will now be making his debut in The Great Indian Dysfunsctional family on Alt Balaji which will stream on 10 October.
From doing varied roles he has carved a niche for his himself in film and as he making his debut with web-series he is quite happy with the growth of web shows and digitalization, but Kay Kay is one actor who doesn’t binge watch but does keep a brief track of the shows.

In exclusive conversation with Kay Kay he spoke in length on why he took up web series and what are his upcoming shows.
On being asked what made him take up web series, to which he said, “I liked the script of The Great Indian Dysfunctional family, the role was something different and funny at the same time. That is because this kind of a family, this kind of craft is very difficult to obtain, while you are making a film or a series. It is a dysfunctional family with no extreme emotions. There is a lot of dark humour, at the same time, it has got sensitive moments. It was indeed a pleasure to get this show as my debut. The audience of web and films are different but I shot it in the same way as I would shoot for a film.”

As there are so many OOT apps, people and majorly youth is driven towards web content, this is threat to other mediums, when asked Kay Kay what does he have to say over other medium being affected with growth of digital content. “No medium can take over another medium.. Each of these mediums has their own special place and excitement, and that will never change. Any platform is great be it cinema, web or TV. It depends on how you treat it. Web series is a wonderful medium. However, we in India tend to spoil things, we should not be doing that, it is my only request. Let us be quality conscious all the time. There is a certain kind of freedom on web but when you have such freedom, people often tend to misuse it and that’s where you have to be really careful. You have to be responsible and at the same time you have to be careful that the freedom is not being misused in any way. Every actor has a choice to take or reject a particular script.”
