After having the moral policia, having their say and way in cinema, the OTT platform is now the latest victim. A PIL has been filed at the Bombay High Court claiming that the web series GANDI BAAT and SACRED GAMES for allegedly being ‘Objectionable & Vulgar’.
A demand for a pre – screening committee under the guidance of I&B Ministry has been made in the PIL, the job of the pre –screening committee will be to regulate the suitability of the web shoes/series etc which are released directly on online platforms.
Divya Gontia has filed the PIL in context of two web series GANDI BAAT and SACRED GAMES on alleged charges of using vulgar language and showing sexually explicit scenes, nudity and obscenity.
According to PTI, The petitioner’s lawyer Shyam Dewani says, “We cited before the court various examples of uncontrolled vulgarity, obscenity in such shows and sought a direction to concerned authorities to take appropriate action against all such web service providers.”
The debate has sparked in the circles on whether OTT contents will have a regular censorship procedure like in films, will it be AACHI or GANDI BAAT?! If anything like this does happens.
According to reports Justices, work on the PIL has begun, the concerned authorities and ministries will submit its opinion probably by the end of the month.
