It’s now Akshay Kumar’s turn to have the last laugh. The new face of patriotism on Indian screen Akshay Kumar’s much awaited TOILET – EK PREM KATHA is set to clash with King Khan Shah Rukh Khan’s next still untitled film with Imtiaz Ali.
Previously SRK and Akshay clashed on October 20 2010. DON was pitted against JAANEMAN and SRK proved his superiority as JAANEMAN that also starred Salman Khan in this Shirish Kunder directorial tanked at the box office. Technically Akshay’s ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAI DOBAARA didn’t clash with SRK’s CHENNAI EXPRESS but it was nothing less than a seriously shrewd tussle that saw the makers of CHENNAI EXPRESS bagging the prime Eid slot and pushing Akshay’s film for next week. CHENNAI EXPRESS raked in moolahs while ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAI DOBAARA flopped.
But this time things are different. Akshay Kumar is having a fabulous run at the box office with RUSTOM, AIRLIFT, HOUSEFULL 3 and JOLLY LLB 2 declared hits making it 4 in a row for the Bollywood’s most fit superstar and the highly anticipated NAAM SHABANA coming this week targeting the hi five in succession though it stars Taapsee Pannu in lead and Akshay is reportedly playing an important role in it.
We previously reported about Akshay v/s SRK clash last year in November, the only CRACK (read change) is the name of Akshay Kumar’s film its TOILET – EK PREM KATHA instead of CRACK that was scheduled earlier.
Surprisingly SRK still thinks that he is the King of clashes but sadly things have changed. While Akshay Kumar has gained the confidence in the market and audience alike, his upcoming Independence Day gift TOILET – EK PREM KATHA conceptualized by Neeraj Pandey and directed by Shree Narayan Singh costarring Bhumi Pednekar has wrapped its shoot. SRK’s next with Imtiaz Ali costarring Anushka Sharma with Ranbir Kapoor in a special appearance is still untitled ( its neither THE RING nor REHNUMA) , and incomplete till the filing of this report.
SRK’s recent clashes have seen the superstar not performing at par at the box office according to his stature as the Indian global superstar. RAEES was almost head to head with KAABIL and everybody knows what happened when DILWALE clashed with BAJIRAO MASTANI.
Certainly this Independence Day Akshay Kumar is poised to have the last laugh as SRK faces his biggest litmus test of his stardom with Imtiaz Ali’s next that will decide whether SRK will be called the ‘King’ dobaara.
