Kendrick Lamar creates history by winning the Pulitzer Prize

Kendrick Lamar has been breaking narrative rap styles as soon as he hit the rap industry with his story telling and recently won 5 major Grammies for his album, ‘Damn’ this January.

But to make things even greater the Pulitzer committee decided to award the rapper with Pulitzer Prize for music. This is a revolutionary step for the rap industry as no other rapper had won it before.

Kendrick’s album was anticipated to win the Album of the year Grammy but lost out to Bruno Mars
Dana Canedy, administrator of the Pulitzer Prize said, "We are very proud of this selection, it means that the jury and its board judging system worked as it's supposed to - the best work was awarded a Pulitzer Prize”.
She added, "It shines a light on hip-hop in a completely different way. This is a big moment for hip-hop music and a big moment for the Pulitzers."
The Pulitzer Prize is best known for recognising US journalism, but it also gives awards for books, poetry and music.
