Rajkummar Rao is one of the most versatile actors in B-town. He has done various roles in different shades be it making us laugh in BAREILLY KI BARFI to giving some intense roles in TRAPPED, NEWTON, SHAADI MEIN ZAROOR AANA and many more.
He will now be seen in Hansal Mehta’s next OMERTA which is a horrifying true story of one of the most dreaded terrorists. It has been shot across London and India, and exposes the real and present danger of terrorism. It also showcases terror attacks in recent history including the 9/11 world trade center attacks, the Mumbai Terror Strike and the brutal beheading of American journalist Daniel Pearl.
This is the first time Rajkummar Rao is playing an out and out antagonist and the trailer and the look has been appreciated at lot by movie goers.
OMERTA has garnered accolades at various film festivals and is now all set to release worldwide this Friday.
During the interviews of film Rajkummar spoke in length about the role and also said in brief how he prepared for his role.
Rajkummar said, “The process of playing a character as dark as Omar Saeed Sheikh is disturbing. So you have to mentally also be in that psyche, that state of mind. I watched a lot of documentaries and disturbing violent videos to get my act together. I wanted to feel the anger about what is going on in the world. And it did happen, I could achieve that, and I had to retain that throughout the process, which was for three to four months. And it is not a comfortable place when you are continually thinking about hatred for other human beings. There were times when I would be mentally so tired while shooting that I just wanted to sleep because I was always in that state of mind. Shooting those scenes and interacting with people about those things, it was a tough process. “
There is always a liking towards a dark character for any actor, be it Ranveer Singh who donned ‘Khilji’ in PADMAAVAT and now Rajkummar as he is set to play a terrorist. When asked Raj if he thinks actors like to play such dark shades, he said, “I think the script should be powerful and the role. The role demanded and I have done various other roles as well, I don’t want to be genre specific or limit myself as an actor, I am open to good scripts.” www.pigiausiosdalys.lt - pigios auto dalys internete
Out of so many antagonists in Bollywood and Hollywood whom he looks up to, “Heath Ledger,” at once said Raj.
With the backdrop of the film being based on terrorism will this have a communal impact post release to which Raj said, “The film has travelled to various film festivals and we haven’t targeted anyone. We are not targeting any community here. It is a very different film. It talks about a person who is an outsider. He is not from here, not from any of our communities. Hansal Sir is a very responsible and honest director. It is a brutally honest film. It shows things the way it had actually happened, so there is neither an agenda here nor are we giving any justifications. We are just showing you the dark truth of this world.”
Raj has his hands full with various other projects like, MENTAL HAI KYA, EK LADKI KO DEKA TOH AISE LAGA, LOVE SONIA and many more.
He is working with Aishwarya Rai, when asked Raj about the same this is what he had to say.
Your upcoming projects include FANNE KHAN wherein you are working with Aishwarya Rai, was there an fan moment for you were you intimidated by her looks when the first time camera rolled, to which Raj averred, “(haha) no, we are professional, the minute camera rolled we were working. We were so involved in our characters and role.”
