LIPISTICK UNDER MY BURKHA row: Pahlaj Nihalani counter attacks Prakash Jha
The currently famous LIPISTICK UNDER MY BURKHA controversy has taken a new turn. In an exclusive conversation with glamsham.com, CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani has counter attacked filmmaker Prakash Jha by saying the filmmaker knows everything.PAHLAJ NIHALANI AND PRAKASH JHA
CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani says, “The CBFC has done its work, we stand by our decision. CBFC has done its work under the set guidelines and norms. We don’t have a rating for a movie like LIPISTICK UNDER MY BURKHA its beyond ‘A’ according to the committee. Prakash Jha has made movies before and he knows the procedure, he can approach the tribunal panel, go to court, CBFC will follow the decision of the court/ panel’.
On being asked about the letter issued by CBFC to Prakash Jha productions calling the film being ‘lady oriented’ and there are contentious sexual scenes, abusive words, audio pornography and a bit sensitive touch about one particular section of society, Pahlaj Nihalani clarified that “CBFC has given its reasons for not issuing the certificate and also given the option of appealing to the revising committee, it’s a normal procedure. Why are they not talking about the option available in the letter for which they have to give their acknowledgment for the appeal which should be dome with 14 days? They are calling themselves victims and blaming CBFC for curbing freedom of expression. Prakash Jha knows the procedure and has gone through this before. They should go to the Revising Committee.”
Adding further without taking any names Pahlaj Nihalani blamed the media and the industry people for using the issue for their benefits and gains by presenting it in the way they want it to appear.
This is not the first time Prakash Jha is seen standing against CBFC, his previous films GANGAAJAL, AARAKSHAN etc has run into same censorship storm and finally granted the certificate.
The Alankrita Shrivastava directed film - LIPISTICK UNDER MY BURKHA has received accolades at several awards including the Oxfam award for “Best Film on Gender Equality” at the Mumbai Film Festival and the “Spirit of Asia Prize” at the Tokyo film festival.LIPISTICK UNDER MY BURKHA CONTROVERSY
