The two premier releases of the week, MANIKARNIKA-THE QUEEN OF JHANSI and THACKERAY, saw a dull start. While Kangana’s MANIKARNIKA was at 20 percent, Nawazuddin’s THACKERAY saw a 15 percent occupancy. The start can be termed as fair given that neither of the two was expected to set the box-office on fire. With the Republic Day holiday and the upcoming Sunday, both the films should manage a decent weekend, touché wood.
Meanwhile, last week’s T-Series venture starring Emraan Hashmi, WHY CHEAT INDIA, found little patronage from the audience netting 9 crore (to be validated) during the opening week. The remaining releases of the same week, Pahlaj Nihalani’s Govinda venture RANGEELA RAJA, BOMBAIRIYA featuring Radhika Apte and Saurabh Shrivastava directed Arshad Warsi starrer FRAUD SAIYAAN etc. are all washouts.
Concluding with Ronnie Screwvala’s URI- THE SURGICAL STRIKE , the film almost doubled its first week total netting 134 crore till the end of the second week. Given the 42 crore total investment (production, promotion, marketing and release), the Vicky Kaushal starrer is already a blockbuster and is still surgically striking the box-office even in its third week.
