BANKEY KI CRAZY BARAAT is a movie that surprises with many laugh-out-loud moments that jump out at you from the screen. The cast, which we have seen in umpteen films are handled with vision and foresight by director Aijaz Khan who keeps the plot moving with force simply by superb acting from the entire cast.

In a comedy, timing is of great essence and Khan times every act to a nicety. Not only that, he creates situations that build up to the plot and takes the film forward in a charming, yet deceiving way. It makes you laugh and recoil, both at the same time.

Set in Himachal Pradesh, BAANKEY KI CRAZY BARAAT is a film that is based on the scam practiced by some families in Uttar Pradesh, where the boys' families deceive the girls' families, in case the boy is not good looking or has a dosh (fault) in his kundali.

Here we have Bankey (Rajpal Yadav), a 35-year-old who has a fault in his kundali. When the pandit informs his family about the same, Bankey is in a fix. In their family, they have Lallan (Vijay Raaz), their neighborhood friend, who sets everything right in his own way. So when he is introduced to the pandit, there is a solution for Bankey's marriage.

He can get married, provided someone else takes the saat pheras on his behalf, gets the girl home and then Bankey takes over.

Thus begins the hilarious ride. Aijaz Khan has a grip on things, right from the word go, as he merges scene into scenes to keep the plot at a pace with the comedy intact. Every actor pitches in with that much amount of deadpan humor or the desired seriousness.

Rakesh Bedi, Sanjay Mishra and Vijay Raaz are a riot in their respective acts. Rajpal Yadav is the scene stealer here. Throughout the film, he goes about his crazy antics without once getting on your nerves. Although you see him do the same buffoonery on screen which we have been used to seeing him do, there is that certain amount of crazy charm he brings to his act.

In between, when the comedy is moving at a brisk pace, Khan introduces a romantic dream sequence that not only pulls the film down a bit but also unnecessarily lengthens the duration of the film.

Nevertheless, this film is a delight. There are moments where you can't help but let go with glee.

Both the lead actors, Satyajit Dubey and Tia Bajpai perform with conviction with the required chemistry and the sense of comedy and seriousness. I was particularly impressed with Dubey; the young lad is a natural and he performs every scene with the ease of a seasoned pro. Tia, too makes a favorable impression with her timing and compact performance. Far from the Tia we have seen so far on screen. A huge improvement.

BANKEY KI CRAZY BARAAT is a fun ride. Watch it if you are looking to loosen up this weekend.
