So, FANTASTIC BEASTS: THE CRIMES OF GRINDELWALD - the second of the planned five prequel to the Harry Potter franchise after the departure of the original with HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS—PART 2 in 2011, which got a reboot with FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM in 2016, set for a backlash, has the fatigue set in?.

The formulae to cash on a phenomenon – Harry Potter in this case, with follow-ups and a much awaited conclusion only to provide fodder for prequels, spin offs etc has seen its after effects, the amazing George Lucas has sometimes faltered so it’s not a surprise that the wizard of this genre David Yates who helmed four of the Harry Potter series disappoint even after having Johnny Depp as Grindelwald.

At the end of the first film, the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Depp) was captured by MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America), with the help of Newt Scamander (Redmayne). But, making good on his threat, Grindelwald escaped custody and has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings. In an effort to thwart Grindelwald's plans, Albus Dumbledore (Law) enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested.

There is so much in one film, the over plotted premise in this circa 1927 setting is oddly on lines of racisms and politics with Johnny Depp overacting most of the times.

Thankfully, it’s not a colossal disaster. The elaborate sets, costumes, and CGI are amazing. Sorcerers, witches, even those nostalgic Disney kind of déjà vu is felt at one point but all the special effects buttery fails to find its bread for a hearty munch.

The makers had tried to take the Harry Potter to the universe in FANTASTIC BEASTS: THE CRIMES OF GRINDELWALD but alas, it fails to reach even its own roof set by FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM which can be reachable by any. With three to follow and in all probability to be helmed by David Yates, we hope things gets far better.
