That director Sajid Khan's films have always provided wholesome entertainment, with music that is equally popular and entertaining, is something that the audience has taken for granted. So naturally one expects that composer Himesh Reshammiya too will come up with a score that is universally appealing (like Sajid's films and its music) and provide some solid entertainment. No heavy duty stuff here, so let us get on and check out the audio of this laugh riot that promises nine times the fun!

Neeraj Shridhar and Neeti Mohan provide the HUMSHAKALS album a chartbusting start with 'Caller Tune', a light, catchy and instantly likeable dance number that hooks due to its lovely rhythm and imaginative and identifiable lyrics (Sameer). It's cute picturisation too adds to the charm and the song has already hit it off with the youths and kids.

Shalmali Kholgade and Himesh come together for an item number, 'Piya Ke Bazaar Mein'. The song has strong inspirations from the classical hit, 'Thade Rahiyo' (PAKEEZAH) and 'Aaya Aaya Atariya Pe Koi Chor' (MERA GAON MERA DESH) especially in the chorus. And one expected Himesh to come up with some original tune here for the item number, considering Sajid's last one 'Anarkali Disco Chali' was a super hit.

Another one for the dance floor, 'Just Look Into My Eyes', is a catchy number with a nice flowing tune, but the highlight are the lyrics which are a fine blend of English and Hindi. Ash King and Neeti Mohun do the needful, although the song is nothing to shout home about. Pleasant as long as it lasts.

Ashok, the billionaire has a friend in Kumar. An evil Mama (Ram Kapoor) wants to usurp the empire. After putting Ashok's dad in a coma, the Mama now wants to prove that Ashok is a mental case and almost succeeds after he has a doctor concoct a potent mixture which when mixed with water and is consumed by the person makes him behave like a dog.

The madness begins when these two are sent to the mental asylum. In Ward A of the same asylum are another Ashok and Kumar who behave like five-year-olds. The doctors realize that the billionaire Ashok is not insane and are set to release him and his friend. However, as Sajid would have it, the wrong set is set free.

You are then educated in Stage 3 of OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) and MAD (Mind Altering Drug). There's also the comatose gentleman who appears at the end on the wheelchair and Prince Charles who speaks fluent Hindi. Since the movie is almost three-hours long, Sajid decides to have some fun with his triple roles getting them to dress as drags, just for gags!

Of the entire cast, it is only Riteish Deskmukh who stands out with his comic act. But even for a Riteish to last out that long is quite a task. He tires in the end. Saif is given the tougher task of carrying the poor jokes and falters at every step.

I understand that this is kindergarten humour at its best, but I have just one question for Sajid; is HUMSHAKALS really a tribute to Kishore Kumar and Jim Carrey?

You are a joking, right?

There are three sets of best friends. The mother of all similarities is that all three have the same name: Ashok and Kumar.

There are also three sets of a heavyset Ram Kapoor. So Sajid Khan would have thought that this is game, set and match for him. A 'blockbuster film'. It is, if he has targeted this movie for five-year-olds!

After the licking this 'blockbuster director' got for 'creatively rejuvenating' HIMMATWALLA (the Jeetendra-Sridevi starrer of the eighties) he is set for a lynching! Sajid himself tells us during the narration of his latest 'spark of genius' that watching HIMMATWALA is worse than Chinese torture.

JUST FOR GAGS, the silent Canadian comedy, is hilarious for its intent and the genuine humour that erupts after each incident, unknown to the unsuspecting person who is at the center of it all.

Sajid tries this; if it was a 15-minute film, he would have succeeded. After six minutes, the torture begins. Riteish Deshmukh's Kumar asks Saif Ali Khan's Ashok, a millionaire in the UK who likes to crack poor jokes. ''Aap har hafte apni beizatti kyu karte ho?''

The same can be asked of Sajid.
