Hunterrr Movie Review
What goes against HUNTERRR is the too many complicated flashbacks. While this is a nice way to unravel the past of a protagonist and adds weight to the narration in a certain sequence, it does not always end up being a winning style.
|HUNTERRR MOVIE STILLS|
And that lack is exposed in HUNTERRR as Harshvardhan Kulkarni tries too many 'back-and forth' flip-flops to keep his story alive. In the end, [although initially in the beginning it appeared interesting], this style of narration gets to be a major irritant.
But thanks to Gulshan Devaiah and his engrossing, entertaining, energetic, illuminating act as the sex-starved Mandar Ponkshe, HUNTERRR becomes a prized catch.
Gulshan's is an act to be dissected with a critical eye. And each 'act' of his in this movie is to be studied for the sheer force of ingenuity that he puts into it to make this film likeable, enjoyable and believable.
For me, HUNTERRR without Gulshan Devaiah would be chass without curds! In this movie, he unravels a completely different act from his previous films THE GIRL IN YELLOW BOOTS, HATE STORY or even GOLIYON KI RAAS LEELA RAM-LEELA. Clearly, this is what acting should be, with no trace of mannerism of earlier acts.
In HUNTERRR Gulshan is Mandar, and that as they say is that.
A sex-starved youth from his early days, Mandar will do anything to get 'into the skirt'. He charms his way, sometimes in seemingly innocent ways. He seems to smell the needs of a woman and women seem to see the desire in him. He uses his advantage to good effect to bed a number of women, including the bored housewife in the neighbourhood.
On the insistence of his friends, he tries to meet girls for the singular purpose of marrying, But, in the first meeting, when he tells them of his escapades, they all run away. He then decides to present himself as a 'dudh ka dhoola' boy to the next girl he meets and that works well for him. They continue their meeting, although Tripti (Radhika Apte) tells him of her three affairs. Somehow, love blossoms and they get engaged.
The million dollar question now for Mandar is: should he tell the truth to Tripti? After constant debating with himself and his friends he decides to come straight with the truth. Does it help?
Go find out.
Apart from the obvious sex-propelled script, Kulkarni also adds some soul into the narrative in the form of friends, 'love is blind' concept and the need for finding an anchor in life.
Like I mentioned earlier, HUNTERRR is Gulshan Devaiah and Gulshan Devaiah is HUNTERRR! He gets excellent support from the entire cast, especially the girls who play a prominent part. Sai Tamhankar as the frustrated housewife sizzles in the truest sense of the word, Veera Saxena's act borders on the real and Radhika Apte delivers another fine act after BADLAPUR.
