Kochadaiiyaan Movie Review
''Animation is a word, a process. In India, people think animation is cartoon. AVATAR was animation, but is not a cartoon. TINTIN is completely cartoonistic. I am creating Rajinikanth, where he has actually performed; it's captured on a camera and then put into a 3D version. AVATAR took seven years and so much budget and a James Cameron. There was always the insecurity of the unknown, but we have taken a road never taken in India and broken rules and have completed the film in just a year and a half.''
- Soundarya Rajinikanth Ashwin on KOCHADAIIYAAN, in a recent interview.

Right at the start of the movie, there is an explanation on the technology used to create this film, where the actual body movements of the actors have been captured as dots on the computer. They are then replicated with the actors face and an animated body. In that technological sense, KOCHADAIIYAAN is path-breaking. To have even ventured into a technology not yet explored in India; for that massive risk alone in experimenting, Soundarya deserves a resounding applause.
The whole product however, is not captivating enough, even though it has Superstar Rajinikanth. Having said that, I am sure the South will go berserk.
CHECK OUT: KOCHADAIIYAAN - Songs Lyrics
It's a period flick that dates back in time to a fictional era where two kingdoms have their differences along with their king and one warrior who is loved and respected even more than the king.
Rajinikanth plays Rana the son as well as the fearless warrior who is Rana's father. Rana has the enormous task of completing the unfinished work of his father. On his side is the king's daughter and the entire kingdom. But the king himself is gunning for Rana.
The first half is slow and heavy. The second half livens up a bit, but on the whole this is one huge disappointment for Rajni fans. Soundarya had enough time and space and also the confidence of the superstar himself who happens to be her father. I guess she was more overwhelmed about the post-production work, which is what this film is all about, rather than creating a Rajni style, fast-paced flick that would have drawn in the crowds and ceetis and taalis from the audience.
CHECK OUT: Will Rajinikanth repeat history with KOCHADAIIYAAN?
A Rajni fan wants fast-and-furious Rajni-kind of action, not a boring documentary. Maybe, Mr Amitabh Bachchan would want to revisit his statement where he says that the Indian film industry will be viewed as 'Before KOCHADIIYAAN and after KOCHADIIYAAN'.
For all the technological risks that Soundarya has taken, the characters have come across as stiff. Moreover, their facial expressions alternate from cold to horrible. There is no life in the eyes either!
