Immediate reaction after watching MARD KO DARD NAHI HOTA
Eureka!!, paar hui rekha.. finally, Bollywood has a ‘kick ass’ Deadpool that pulls the nostalgia of martial arts action dramas with a hustle that bustles with all enjoyably unimaginable surprise that is whacky, crazy and absolutely weird. Bollywood ka pure kick ass action masala..

The Story of MARD KO DARD NAHI HOTA
Surya (debutant Abhimanyu Dassani) has a rare disorder. He can’t feel pain. In medical terms it’s known as congenital insensitivity (you can check it out on Google says the voice over as well). Surya who after watching the video of one-legged Mani (Gulshan Devaiah), defeating hundred opponents decides to be a Karate man. What follows in his quest to be the disciple of Mani forms the crux of this movie.

Analysis
A parody on action, that’s also a dramedy, a tribute and an action movie as well. Like the super cool Tim Miller’s DEADPOOL (minus the foul language) on a masala noodles date with Stephen Chow’s KUNG FU HUSTLE with occasional sips of Matthew Vaughn’s KICK-ASS to keep the adrenaline rush going. Vasan Bala’s MARD KO DARD NAHI HOTA (unreleased PEDDLERS previous) is an ambitious movie by a movie geek to movie geeks and beyond. Just feel it. Don,t think – reminded me of the line said by Amitabh Bachchan in KHUDA GAWAH to Danny Denzongpa which goes like, “ jyada mat socho khuda bashq, soch agar gehri ho jaye toh hosle kamjoor pad jate hai”. MARD KO DARD NAHI HOTA is a movie felt by a person like Vasan Bala who seems to be fascinated by movies jab se hosh sambhala ( rough translation since childhood). A rare pastiche quality, a personal touch, tribute, nostalgia and attitude. It’s a ‘challenge’ – the movie begins with this song from Cheeranjeevi’s Hindi movie AAJ KA GOONDA RAAJ (1992) and makes it clear that things are going to be crazy. Now who thought the line said by the icon for the icons in MARD – mard ko dard nahi hota can be a title for a bollywood action parody after 34 years?!!.

Performances
It’s not just the unique quirky ode to martial arts; MARD KO DARD NAHI HOTA is ruled by top notch performances. Abhimanyu Dassani is a talent to look out for. Supremely confident debut. Radhika Madan is superb. Gulshan Devaiah is mind blowing. What an actor. Why we don’t get to see him often. Bollywood please. Mahesh Manjrekar is a delight as Ajoba, the driving force behind Surya. Exceptional. 102 NOT OUT fame Jimit Trivedi is funny. And last but not the least,  Shweta Basu Prasad who plays Surya’a mother is ‘kick ass’.

Technicalities
Jay I Patel's cinematography is eye pleasing. Eric Jacobus and Anand Shetty's action choreography is outstanding. Ratheesh U K's production design is fine. Prerna Saigal's editing is fair.

Music
Karan Kulkarni's music is worth mentioning for that 'Tere Liye' done in S P Balasubrahmanyam style. What a moment. Rest is fine.

Flaws
The fly of creativity after a point fails to get the air in spite of having the wings of desire. The movie gets a bit stagnant and gives an impression of self indulgence. The length gets questionable and the character of Radhika Madan is poorly developed.

Final words
MARD KO DARD NAHI HOTA is an experience you won’t experience often, An intoxicating mix of being both creatively sublime and over the top without any complain. Vasan Bala has taken the level of Bollywood comic action, parody, masala genre to a new level with this mad action packed masala chopsuey. Bollywood has found an answer to Tim Miller and Stephen Chow, WOW!!
