Giving Swara Bhaskar her finest and the most shining moments in her career, a 'short' film old Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari's NIL BATTEY SANNATA is a heartfelt, affecting, motivating, significant, relevant parable hailing the power of woman and motherhood.

Beautifully crafted, brilliantly performed and almost flawlessly written, NIL BATTEY SANNATA is nothing short of a triumph. This poignant, sweet, beguiling and uplifting humanistic fable celebrates the joys of having a dream twining it with the privileged and the non privileged life, fight for survival, showcasing Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari's simple and beautiful storytelling techniques and Swara Bhaskar's superb acting.

Poised for a mouth watering word of mouth, especially from the women and to be women brigade, NIL BATTEY SANNATA is set to bring in all the good cheers for the producers - JAR Pictures and Colour Yellow and its distributor Eros International. All Salaam..

Underprivileged mother Chanda (Swara) is loaded with big dreams, not for herself but for her daughter Apu (Riya) = charming but a hopeless, dreamless dud who is already seeing her future as a house help/maid (bai), just like her mother, nothing beyond..

Within seconds, a simple but commendable opening scene where Chanda welcomes the morning with her beautifully deep wide eyes depicting a twinkle of hope, and immediately after hurries through her hectic morning proceedings while Apu is unwilling to get up from bed, sets the right mood, atmosphere for the real things that will be coming on reels.

Chanda's never-say-die effort to generate some interest in her daughter Apu to study leads to a sweet, funny situation where Chanda lands herself as a student in Apu's school - coming face-to-face with her daughter where one thing is common between them - both Chanda and Apu are hopeless in mathematics.

What happens next and how Chanda and Apu win over mathematics and find a solution to their problem forms the crux of this story told in astonishing simplicity and uncomplicated wisdom bringing in the required positivity and satisfying cinematic resonance.

Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari's lyrical and simple story telling techniques brings a passing flash of the neo-realism feel by the pioneer Vittorio De Sica's THE BICYCLE THEIF (1948). Simple, beautiful, endearing, spiked with gentle humor, Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari ensures NIL BATTEY SANNATA smoothly goes through the tropes of a positively gifting and inspiring cinema.

The writing team - Pranjal Choudhary, Neeraj Singh, Nitesh Tiwari led by Ashwiny Iyer maintain a proper balance and avoid going preachy and melodramatic, keeping it simple, sober and witty with identifiable and likable characters. The dialogues are driven from our everyday life and gems like garib who hota hai jiske pass sapna nahi hota keep coming.

Cinematographer Benedict Taylor's beautiful lensing, capturing the Hindi heartland U.P. helps in conveying the cause of the director, Gavemic Ary smart editing contributes in the right manner. songs like'dabba gul' composed by Rohan Vinayak and sung by Rohan Utpat and Aarti Shenai, jells rightly with the film.

Exceptional and mesmerizing throughout, Swara Bhaskar as Chanda in NIL BATTEY SANNATA is the actress most cherished on screen moment till date.. grown and evolved wonderfully, Swara has come strong as an actress in the memorable portray of Chanda - a determined mother from an underprivileged back ground fighting against all odds to pump some dream, desire in her daughters heart and mind. Chanda is bound to win the audience heart and establish Swara as an actress who can carry a film on her own. Incredible.

Riya Shukla as Apu is outstanding, infecting the right emotions amongst the audience and ensuring the efforts of Swara as Chanda doesn,t go waste, Riya delivers a marvelous act.

Ratna Pathak Shah is simply brilliant as playing Swara's employer cum consultant. Pankaj Tripathy as the principal is terrifically amusing. Bringing a comic body language and mannerisms to his role as principal and math's teacher, the actor excels in giving good quality humour..

Almost flawless and feel good but still the director and writer again stereotype teachers as someone who is aggressive and eager to punish students, has a typical attitude, speaks louder. The Hindi teacher shown in the film showcases this cliche typicality and is completely out of sync of the otherwise created wonderful and positive world. The 'gyan' during the ending reels by Chanda to her daughter Apu sitting alongside the banks of Yamuna showing us the amazing Taj Mahal is a bit stressed and not required as the message has already got delivered in the previous frame.

All said and done, NIL BATTEY SANNATA is an applauding cinematic triumph, Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari gives a little gem of a humanistic, motivating and beautiful fable that celebrates the joy of having a dream and is an ode to woman hood and motherhood, anchored by Swara Bhaskar's career best performance till date. Highly recommended, it's a must if you love good, inspiring cinema.
