Phir Ussi Mod Par movie review : Earnest idea..but

PHIR USSI MOD PAR movie review is here. The movie is the last offering of late Lekh Tandon who made classics like AMRAPALI starring Vyjanthimala, PROFESSOR, PRINCE both starring Shammi Kapoor, AGAR TUM NA HOTE starring Rajesh Khanna. Does PHIR USSI MOD PAR recreates the prolific Lekh Tandon’s magic in his final offering?. Find out in PHIR USSI MOD PAR movie review.

What is unique about PHIR USSI MOD PAR about?
An earnest debate on Triple Talaq – the practice which is now on hold by the Supreme Court judgment with a request lying in Parliament to pass a law that abolishes this practice in all forms. Probably after the great B.R. Chopra’s 1982 blockbuster NIKAAH (1982) initially titled ‘Talaq Talaq Talaq’ that starred Raj Babbar, Deepak Parashar and introduced Salma Agha, PHIR USSI MOD PAR triggers the debate on Triple Talaq in the mainstream format.

The story of PHIR USSI MOD PAR
Naaz (Jividha Astha) - a pregnant woman is heartlessly abandoned and divorced by her advocate husband Shahid (Parmeet Sethi) by using the Triple Talaq system. Rescued by Rasheed (Kanwaljit Singh), Naaz gets the protection and is able to give a name to her child. However, things take a turn when Naaz’s son like his father tries to take the advantage of the Triple Talaaq system and decides to divorce his wife. Will Naaz stand for his son or her daughter – in – law?. Finds the crux of this social drama.

Good points
The subject and the performance by actors. Debutant Jividha shows sparks of an actress to look out for in future. Kanwaljit Singh and Parmeet Sethi are competent. The late veteran Lekh Tandon displays his mastery in developing a drama at couple of occasions.

Bad points
The movie appears outdated. The topic is relevant and there is nothing wrong in displaying obsession to the Muslim socials of yore but an engrossing script is essential to keep the ball rolling through the entire 2 hrs 33 mins duration and here the movie falters in big way and looks unnecessarily prolonged.

Final words
Phir Ussi Mod Par Talaq touches a relevant subject and is earnest in its intentions but it fails to make the mark due to a mundane and outdated execution.

Rating 2/5
