Willpower - you have the will God gives you the power. Actor turned filmmaker Rahul Bose's POORNA is a piously motivating, inspiringly beautiful & simply haunting tale of courage, will and determination of the 13 year old Poorna Malavath from Telangana who became the youngest girl in history to scale Mount Everest on 25th May, 2014.
POORNA MOVIE POSTER
The extraordinary story of the ordinary adivasi from Telangana who wrote history in climbing the majestic Everest is told simply, directly and in a straightforward manner that highlights Rahul Bose return as a helmer in serious terms after 16 years (EVERY BODY SAYS I 'M FINE! Previous) who can weave the tapestry without much frills and make us enjoy the chills of the snow capped Himalayas.
Writers Prashant Pandey and Shreya Dev Verma begin this inspiring tale that also serves as a mirror to the society with Poorna (Aditi Inamdaar) and her neighbour and BFF Priya (S. Mariya). Struggling for even basic necessities Priya dreams of eloping to the Government aided Social Welfare School which promises food and education for free. After initial hesitation, Poorna agrees but they both are caught red handed by Priya's father resulting in Priya hurriedly getting married and Poorna left all alone. But as luck could have it, thanks to Poorna's poverty, her father enrolls her in one of the Social Welfare School and life changes for Poorna.
A concerned Dr. RS Praveen Kumar (Rahul Bose) a top rank IAS officer who chooses to look after the Social Welfare School and make it better rather than accepting a high gazette post in the State Government, is informed about Poorna's gifted ability to climb mountains. Rest is how the 13 year old girl climbs the biggest mountain peak while the movie subtly speaks about the harsh realities, corruption, red -tapism, teen marriages, early pregnancy etc.
It could have been exceptional if the movie would have shown the intense struggle of Poorna's battle with obstacles while conquering Mt. Everest and the use of Telugu could have been sub titled. Otherwise POORNA is a small little triumph.
Aditi Inamdaar and S.Mariya give an effortlessly natural in giving a winning performance. Rahul Bose shines in a controlled and discipline act. Supporting actors Dhritiman Chatterjee, Heeba Shah and Gyanendra Tripathi chip in with valuable support.
Technically sound, Subransu lense does the required talking and the shots of snow-clad mountains are eye popping. Manan Mehta's editing is crisp. Salim-Sulaiman's music receives special mention for its ability to seamlessly push the narrative forward with the desired effect. Poori Qayanaat and Kuch Parbat Hilaayein are well tuned and performed.
POORNA is a story that needs to be told. The movie upholds the power of will, determination and confidence that can make you scale the highest peak, it's a small little motivating gem recommended for those who look for some meaning in their life and cinema.
