PULI (dubbed in Hindi), is one of those movies that leave you with a thumping headache. It's like entering a grand wedding with state-of-the art light, sound and decor and with cuisine from across the world, but with no bride and groom.

The movie is set for doom from the beginning. The hero, a sprightly lad with a hint of moustache breaking out over his upper lip, is given the onerous task of taking on demons who can fly in the air. These demons are tormenting the villagers nearby and this lad is chosen to go in search of them after his 'wife' has been captured.

He takes two cartoons with him and along the way, they meet three more cartoons (they are dwarfs called Alpha, Beta and Gama). You know now where the film is headed. Wait, I forgot to mention that this sprightly lad is given some 'herb like' potion to drink which will give him supernatural powers to fight the demons. He goes, fights and comes back victorious.

Sridevi, looking scary, is the queen of the demons. She has a daughter Hansika Motwani who is present throughout the second half. In the first half we have Shruti Haasan. Sadly, she is sleeping throughout the second half.

The makers had the right intention of making PULI a fantasy film, but lost the plot early on. Crores of rupees have been spent on erecting sets which I must say are appealing. Even the post-production has to be commended. But with no acting upfront, this tiger moves around with its tail between its legs.

Even Sudeep, the established south star, looks on from afar at the proceedings as if to give the impression to the viewer that he is not happy with what is going on around the sets.

After BAHUBHALI, which rocked Indian cinema a few months ago, I was looking forward to another treat from the south. Alas, this was just paper dosa served with exotic accompaniments.
